I am not really a fan of griptilian with plastic handle, but the new version looks amazing, and has premium steel.I am thinking of getting it,but am not sure if Crooked River or another 710 would be better choice. All input welcome.Problem is I can not handle knives first, have to order them online.New griptilian looks like really solid and quality knife.

Those are three totally different knives... I'm biased towards the Grips, but the new Crooked River is a great looking knife, and the reviews have been really good so far.

I'm in the minority, but I've never been a fan of the 710. That said, it is probably one of BM's biggest sellers and it has been around for a long time, so that says a lot about the knife...

The G-10 totally changed the Grips. I don't have a problem with the "plastic" handles, I think they are part of what makes a Griptilian a Griptilian, but the G-10 gives the knife a totally different feel,
and the open back with spacers really adds to the look of the knife.

It's a very personal choice and it really depends on what you are going to use the knife for. Personally I think the Grip and Crooked River are better choices for hard use, but
I don't think you could go wrong with any of your choices, but if size is an issue, the CR and 710 are bigger (longer) knives than the Griptilian

Sure, this maybe your first BM, but I'm sure it won't be your last.
I say get the 710.
The 710 is a landmark BM knife and is a "must have" for any BM collection.
I have 5 of them myself.
5-710's, 6-Griptilians (Ritters) & 1 Crooked River.
Which ever one you choose, you won't be disappointed.
All three models are awesome.

OP - if by "another 710" you imply you already have one, then I see no need to repeat hence why not get a new grip.

Oops!
I totally missed that "another 710" .
Good catch sharp_edge.
In that case I would concur, a griptilian would be next one in line.
Unless, of course, the OP prefers larger knives.
As I stated before; all are awesome knives.

Both have their pros and cons.

The 710 carries slim and offers almost a 4 inch blade. The knife does not carry as big as it is. I really like the 710 platform but two things hold me back. The first is D2 steel. I don't hate it but it's not something I seek out. I prefer a true stainless folder when it comes to carrying a modern folder and I just don't want to deal with the possibility of rust because it can happen. Second, I wish the knife didn't have the recurve. I just don't care for them. If they would make the knife in a stainless steel I would probably carry it; I know I know, the M390 Knifeworks 710 is currently available but I HATE the black and blue G10.

My only issue with the 551-1 is how fat it is. It's not terrible in pocket but the 710 carries better. As far as in hand it's one of the better feeling knives I've held so it's not a deal breaker. I'm not big on the blue innards on the new G10 version - I like black so sue me. :)

Both are great - can't go wrong.

If you have a 710 and use it well, branch out and explore the Benchmade family. While the new G10 Grip is a SOLID piece, and I recommend it highly, give the Crooked River a go. I'm liking it much more than I anticipated. It carries well - just an ounce or so more than a 710 and similar in profile. Lots of useful blade too.

Over the past week I've been office EDC-ing it. I think it will get more pocket time until mid-spring rolls in and the CR becomes my backpacking/trail knife.

You need something like this...
M390 & OD green canvas

The Grippie's handle is not plastic, but a reinforced thermoplastic, very tough, light, has a natural lubricity and is impervious to just about everything. Aesthetics aside, it's ideal for the purpose, IMHO. It may feelflimsy but you'd be hard put to even dent it with a hammer.

On topic; that looks killer. I've also thought about natural micarta with D2. Both would age nicely together I think.

Off topic - if I bought a Crooked River could you replace the orange hardware? I love the gray G10 but hate the orange.

I also don't care for the KW blue striped 710. D2 isn't bad...just requires more patience. I keep mine (710D2) sharp enough, but once every year or so send it up for servicing. Also on the recurve, is it my imagination, or is the radius more drop point-like on the newer versions? My opine, the 710 beats out the Grips but that's just preference.

I have 710 d2, and also regular Griptilian tanto. What I do not like in Griptilian is handles are too wide to carry, and plastic, plus tanto blade.New version with g10 handles looks much better, and its thinner. Also another knife I like but do not have is Stryker. Will think for couple more days and then order ,but I still think 710 is the best choice among these knives, for edc and everything else.Any opinions on Stryker compared to these knives?Does anyone here have regular and sheepsfoot griptilian, and how they compare in performance?

710 is one of the best,LOL, along with AFCK!I have to check out new Griptilians in g10 ,Strykers and Crooked River before ordering it.I have regular 710, and love it, maybe will get serrated version with black blade if these new knives are not what Im looking for.

partial to this one myself...

;)

that stated, if op already has a 710 in stable, i'm in agreement for one of the later initially anyway. personally, crooked reminds me enough of 710 that I'd probably go grip, then reevaluate what next.
