which blade steel should go for 1095 or a2 for the most reliable field knife. i do oil often so no worry there.

A2 is slightly more corrosion resistant.1095 is less money. They're both great IMO.If I had to choose,it would be A2.

both are good steels, its really up to you. if you are having it made by a maker, go with his preference, it is what he will be better with.

Both are good choices but A2 is my personal choice. Damn good steel.

This is a good thing to keep in mind, and it makes a lot of sense.

I like 1095 for it's ease of sharpening but both are great and with good heat there should be little to choose between them !

Personaly I would go with 1095 as it is a bit tougher than the a2. However both are great steels.

make your choice by the knife both steels are good... do you prefer coated steel or non coated ? I own several knives made in both A2 & 1095,I like them both !

well thanks for the opinions, i guess ill just go by the company. my choices are between RAT for the rc4 and brkt bravo-1. does anyone have a reason to pic one over the other.

i've owned 2 brkt knives. sold both of them.

Why?: handles too slippery!

what handle material? I own several BRK&T's and I just rough up the micarta alittle and it is grippy as all get out ! G10 can be a little tricky but I still like it..

They are both excellent knives made by excellent companies with full lifetime, no bones about it, warranties. You can't go wrong with either knife, so it basically comes down to which designs you like more. The Bravo-1 is about 35-50% higher cost depending on the model and vendor but also comes in a wide variety of handle materials. I have 2 RC-4's if that is any indication of how much I love this knife. DocCanada has 2 Bravo-1's so he loves his Bravo's as much as I love my RC's. You will find large number of supporters in both camps.

Since you are asking for opinions, I personally like the visuals on the Bravo-1 better but the price was too high for me. When I bought my RC-4 I thought the coated blade was a real detraction but I was attracted to the rougher mircata handle. The grip on RC's mircata when it is wet is something to experience. I don't mind the coated blade anymore, but thats not to say I don't like shiny ones also :)
