Should I go for this If I think it's neat?

So my buddy just got into knife collecting and balled too hard, now his wife is grumbling to him about it so he needs to part with at least one of his more pricey pieces so he offered to sell me a MKM Mikita Terzuola Clap Limited Edition for around $420 or so... I'm tempted cause the thing is gorgeous but I wanted to get you guys thoughts. Also, possibly using Magic the Gathering Cards as replacement for cash isn't out of the question with this guy and I have plenty of pricey enough stuff that I think I could get him to bite on it, plus his wife is a bit more okay with the cards cause she plays too :-D.

Anyway here is an example of what it looks like I pulled up off the internet, his is legit just opened and looks to be in good shape, as does the wooden case.

I'm pretty much just ready to do it, it's just going to sit on my desk on the stand and I'll occasionally do as my name says... *click* *close* *click* *close* ad nauseam. It felt real nice though and it's honestly pretty gorgeous to me. Just wanted some of the you knife nerds thoughts on it.

Value is what you ascribe. I can't talk values directly (because I don't know) but there are some who might, and you have the membership for it. Because he's a friend, that changes things. If you have the cash or cards to make the deal, and it all stays friendly, then it's not such a big thing if things go back later, or if another similar deal ends up on the table. Drive too hard and maybe that doesn't happen. I can think of how this would go with a few of my friends, and it would be more a matter of "am I interested" and "how much is in my fun fund" after that, doesn't matter. But, that's me.

That's a cool knife, but I'd rather have the normal versions that are around $200 to use. If you think you are going to use the Damascus, or hey, if you just really want it, then go for it. I wouldn't buy it as an investment though.

Yeah not exactly thinking of it that way but not really as a carry piece either. If I can make a good trade I can basically get it for that much cash wise plus a few cards and while those are valuable I'm not going to trade him anything that's got potential to go stupid in value. I think it's becoming more if I can get this in cash + trade I bite, If I have to do straight cash I might decline.

Go for it! Then, use it!

I'll flick the hell out of it but lol if I cut anything with it most likely, though part of me would want to carry it for like a classy present opening event or something ridiculous like that. Going to propose an offer today and see what he says, guess if I get it I'll be posting it in the recent acquisitions thread. ;)

Knives lose half their value as soon as they roll off the showroom floor.

*Ok, that’s BS, but now you can tell him you read it on the internet…so it must be true.

I could hear him now when I tell him that lol, he's still in the return window even is the funny thing he's just offering it before doing that cause he could tell I was drooling over it.

lol no

You didn't read the rest of the thread obviously. It wasn't about doubt, it was about how much I could get it for.
Ok after your edit I understand. I did read the whole thread. I offered the advice i thought applied. (Especially because everyone else is an enabler and they love to spend other peoples money) LOL.

We are on different planets anyway. I’m not judging you or your friend, but we are vastly different.

Carry on, best of luck on your decision. Happy New Year.

If a knife gives you that warm fuzzy feeling I would buy it. You might regret not buying it later when you can’t buy it
