I certainly appreciate all the input and insights contained in these posting and am really glad you started it, Vaporstang.

Recently I came into possession of a numbered Sebenza that is/was a user but with great and unblemished logo and numbering. Based on the feedback in these postings, I do not want to negatively impact those markings in order to eliminate the previous carry marks.

Just wanted to say "Thanks!".

Thanks - I learned a lot too! I have a Regular in the mail that is the style with lines on the edges and i don't want to diminish them. I am going to send it in for double studs and sharpening (another subject), but no blasting.

My memory's a little fuzzy - are they still doing DL conversions on S30V blades? I'm pretty sure they won't DL a BG-42 blade. I think you're going to find that if they will DL your Regular you're going to have to accept re-blasting, at least on the "off" side, because they have to mill a recess for the lug on that scale, which leaves bright metal. That used to be the case - they may have changed their practices.

I think they they will do double lugs but will check before sending it in. I know they won't on the Bg-42. If they have to remove material on a Regular I will reconsider.

Interesting. I have a micarta in there right now and blasting is on the list of things to have done to it.

I've never read that the blasting will effect the edges, logo or anything like that. I understand how it could change a tiny amount but they are blasted in the first place so I have to wonder how much effect could really be seen. I would hope less variability than the original in the first place. I've held some that are slicker than others.

I doubt they would blast them so much the customer gets back a knife clearly not a clean edged as it was before.

Anyone have some pics of a re-blasted knife? Certainly there are hundreds of examples owned in this forum alone.

I have a large classic 21 that I got here on the Exchange for a killer deal. When I got the knife the lockup was very very early. Dangerously early. I took the knife apart cleaned it and when I reassembled played with the positioning of the stop pin bushing. I couldn't fix the lockup issue so I sent it back to CRK for them to fix. While it was there I had double silver thumb studs put on and had the scales reblasted.
When I got it back it was like brand new. The lock up was perfect. The reblasting of the scales did not affect any of the lettering ( the classic or MM inscription) or any thing else on the knife. It was literally like a brand new knife.

It'd be a tough decision for me. Mine are finally starting to get some character, but there's just nothing like that new CRK feeling with the fresh dark sandblasting and the bright blue lugs. Getting that first scratch again would be tough. I also personally like the look of the fresh grayish micarta rather than when it's solid black.

It may depend on who's doing the work and what media's on hand, as well as what was used at the time the knife was originally finished. I can tell you that my 1996 small Regular came back very different than when it started.

If I had a Regular or a Classic PJ or micarta I'd say no, too much of a change. A 21 or newer, no problem.

I have a large user Moon Song that I sent in a couple of years ago that needed a complete spa.

I only had sharpen and clean up the front scale. They did a Great job on the scale. I really like the fact that I

don't have to worry about getting marks/scratches on this knife. The ti on the back is almost worn off in a couple

of places. Same thing with the clip.
