Should I join AARP

I was a member for a couple of years. I didn't get any discounts that I could not have gotten anyway. What I did get was a constant flood of "special offers" that I assume would have generated money for them at my expense. I can't imagine ever joining back up.

We have a 2002 van and a 2006 car , both with full coverage through AARP Hartford for $495.00 a year . I have looked and no one can beat that . Now I do not know if Hartford would offer that if I was not a member .

I do not like their politics though m but I do like my insurance rate .

USAA has great home and auto insurance. Usually untouchable. Caveat is, it is a military insurance. My dad is a vet, so I could join. However, my step daughter could also join, because I was a member.

I am piling on to what MikeH said. Besides being a bunch of leftists, AARP has turned into an insurance company.

I am losing my medicare advantage plan at the end of the year and I only have two choices, AARP United and Humana. Humana is more expensive, but I can't see giving AARP my money.

THIS. The changes in the law they pushed made them $$millions as an agent for United Health.

Obamacare was worth $$millions to AARP in premiums for peddling insurance - and cost seniors $$ hundreds of millions in Medicare cuts.

I saved a bunch of money at Denny's besides that not much. Although you can join for one year and use the card forever without rejoining, nobody checks for an expiration date. I have been using an expired card for 3 years.

In Ohio, there is a Golden Buckeye card that gives greater discounts without funding an organization that sold out the elderly for more insurance profits to spread among it's officers.

I turn 50 in Jan., what are the advantages of joining something like AMAC? TIA.

What Mike said. Its a political organization (a radical one, in my view) masquerading as a "retired persons" organization. They send me crap too. I draw a vulgar picture and sent it back to them in the envelope they paid for.
Yeah AARP sucks, I don't want their crap in my mail.

This was the running joke when you turned 50. Everybody gets the applications. As a prank we would sign all our friends up.....send them the sample packs of Depends, etc.

Join for real? Not gonna happen.
