Should I leave this in the safe?

I'm new to nicer knives, bought a ZT 0550 a couple months ago and then had to have a ZT 0560. I found one unused with a low serial number, 0090. Should I leave this in the safe and find another to carry or should I enjoy it like I have the 0550?

I personally think it's a shame to keep a good knife locked up. ZT knives are expensive, but they are intended to be users.

I say use it.

My vote it to enjoy it really. Even with a low serial number, I don't think it will matter too much down the roads as Zt has made in excess of 10,000 of the 0560, and is still in production to date.

Besides, I don't think you should have to have 2 of the knife to enjoy using it! ;)
But the decision is up to you at the end of the day. Just do what you feel is better for yourself.

Use it. The value is not likely to change with time. Great knife; don't let it go stale.

Depends on what you intend to do with your knives in general. If you're going to be a collector and want to resale your knives...then separate your EDC from your collector-type. But there's nothing wrong with an expensive EDC.

If it were me I would use the hell out of it. I have 2 0560s and both are users.

That said, let us not forget the 0560 is being discontinue.

And for further contemplation, it is said that early on ZT had issues with elmax so a lower number 0560 may not be desirable as a user.

Can of worms opened.

And how delicious they are.

I have the 0561 myself, and the knife is a beast. It is meant to be put through the ringer. Use it and love it!

I have used the knife below a lot, cutting open bags of concrete, it rode across country from Portland Ore to Chicago Illinois, it has cut many a piece of tubing or cardboard or wire.

Do you see a lot of wear or abuse? Nope. They hold up well. I do clean it and keep it maintained, but otherwise it is used like any other pocket knife in my collection.

The Elmax issue is bunk.

Im going to vote for using it. It's not the kind of knife where market value increases a lot over time. There are a lot in circulation. I'd say there isnt much to lose by using it and even putting some wear on it.

Looks like the votes are in. I'm going to use it! Now I want to find what sharpening setup to get. I've been looking through some threads and the polished edges look awesome. I'd like to learn how to do that. Thanks for everyones input.

This made me laugh, in a good way. Here is my 0801 #0094 I didnt know it would become such a popular knife. Shortly after i got it the mods started. Polished off the beadblast, flame ano, polished the hardware and put a draw on the blade and numerous convex and regrinds. Ive got it just where i like it. Its spent its life in a tool shop and a year of tree service. Felt guilty once in a while for doing that to a low serial number of such a popular knife. But i just use it, and i couldn't be happier. Use it!

Also no problem with the elmax, it works fine.
