Should I make a big deal out of this?

Okay, so I bought this knife on gunbroker. It's a Cold Steel G10 Espada. It was listed as used, and the guy described it as "in perfect condition, practically new". But when I got it in the mail, there were little rust spots scattered all over the blade, and a small area that looked like it had the beginnings of some pitting. Otherwise, the knife did look new, but I'm not happy about the rust. I contacted the guy, and he basically said, "hey it's not like it's a collectors item, it won't hurt the value, just use some compound to polish it out." Ignoring the fact of his suckish and dishonest item description, what do you guys think? I've got some Brasso, but I don't know if I should try to polish the blade. It's a bead blasted finish, will polishing mess it up? If I can get the rust off, I'll probably just leave him alone, in order to avoid a retaliatory bad feedback. If I can't get the rust off, should I just let this go? It was the XL size, and I paid $140 (hopefully I can say that without getting in trouble).

On a side note, how easily does bead blasted AUS8 rust? I've got some smooth finished AUS8 knives, and I have never seen rust on them. Is this neglect, or just normal?

it sounds like you need to get the rust erasor. it is like a pencil erasor but it is made for rust. I use mine all of the time and it does wonders for my knifes.

I would, but I really don't want a bad feedback on my account. Buyers get graded feedback on gunbroker, correct? It would be nice if they used an ebay-type feedback system, so I could leave honest feedback here. I'm working on trying some of the suggested fixes here. I haven't point blank asked for a refund yet, but judging from his communication so far, I doubt he would agree to a return. I appreciate all the advice guys.

take a good look at the auction. you are looking for the Inspection Period / Return Policy. I always put down AS IS - No refund or exchange. now some times I will exchange the knife any way and that really depends on the buyers ways he tells me what is wrong with the knife. it that is put that way gunbrokers can do anything about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't AUS8 a stainless steel? are you sure its rust, ...and I cant figure out why anyone would pay $140.00 for CS knife made with cheap AUS8 steel, when you could have got a nice BM or Spydie in S30V for that price.

by the way, you can alway file a grevance with ebay "item not as described" and I think you can get your money back

stainless steel is what it sounds like, stains less. Different stainless steels give you different levels of corrosion resistance. Bead blasted finishes don't help, they increase the surface area and provide a place for little bits of moisture to stick. But whatever rust you'll get will be surface rust, and it won't compromise the blade.

There is only one rust proof steel that I know of, H1.

Would you have bought the knife if the description said " minor rust on blade"? I would get my money back, unless you really want the knife any way you look at it its an unpleasant situation. Due to the sellers response I don't think he was ignorant to the problem. This makes me happy I only use brick and mortar chops. No offense meant, this just seems like something that would happen to me. :(
