Should I pass these down to my 19 year old son? What are they worth?

Younger guy chiming in here, pretty freshly 21, so I'm going to try to get both perspectives. Basically, if I were in a situation where my 19 year old son wanted my custom knife collection, I would make sure he understood the significance of the gift. I would sit him down, explain to him the back-story of the knives, who Kit Carson is and what he's done, why the knives are significant, what they mean to you in sentimental value, what they're worth in monetary value, how much they're likely to increase, the importance of maintaining them in current condition, how to maintain them, and why you're giving them to him. After that, make sure he understands and is ready to take on the responsibility of owning such a significant custom piece of such worth. If I knew he understood, then I would give him the knives with the understanding that they are a serious gift to be cared for as if it was a family ring.

Maybe I'm making it melodramatic, but that's what I would do if I had not one, but TWO Kit Carson fixed blades!

From Bladeforums rules:

WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH ?!?!?!?!

In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

In other words, without a paid Gold membership, you don't get to ask about sale values. Too many people abused this question to hint they had a knife for sale, which you need that membership for.
