Should I return this knife?

Return it and let Spyderco make it right.

This is less than half of the Spyderco knives I own...

Not a single problem with any of them, ever.

It seems you've heard of other problems. But "the majority"? Stick to what you know. Hyperbole is no help here.

Well, maybe I shouldn't use "majority" but I have seen quite a number of threads where the Calypso Jr. has problems with crooked blades, and blade play.

By the way, I mean the majority of Calypso Jr.s not everything Spyderco makes.

The original Black VG-10 models, and the SS models, and Micarta models were ok. The Burgundy ZDP, Grey VG-10, and Black ZDP, have all had QC problems off and on for a long time.

The spyderco video was produced for dealers. They had extra copies and gave them out to anyone who requested them on the forums. You could post a question in the Spyderco forum, maybe they still have come copies floating around. It's about 3 years old.

mine is off center to the same side, but does not touch (also has a 2 on the spacer). little blade play when open, but not enough to cause me worries with a lockback and such a thin blade.

Mine touches the side when closed, has alot of blade play in the closed position, but is solid when opened.

I'm just not that concerned with things like that. The knife has done everything I have asked of it, and is as sharp as any knife I've ever seen. It's a great little tool.

Josh at lighthound took care of it, he shipped out a replacement before I shipped mine back, the new one is a bit off center but acceptable. And the is the sharpest knife I've ever touched, the inclusive factory edge is more like 20 degree, and it cut like nothing else and the edge holds strong with the ZDP steel.

I want to get one more of these, and sell the rest of my collection.

Anyone knows how's the factory edge of the Caly3? Might wanna try that with G10 handle IF the edge is also as sharp as the Calypso Jr.

The factory edge on my Caly3 was very very close to being as sharp as the ZDP Caly. I was extremely impressed. Easily the two sharpest factory edges I've encountered so far.

Cool, this is tempting, do you think the Caly 3 is any sharper than the para?

I don't think it's a second.

I'm pretty sure Spyderco marks seconds by grinding a small notch on the spine of the blade.

Ha, like the old "notching" process on albums/cassettes/CDs back in the day.

I thought I'd pipe up as well in favor of Spyderco in general. I have a Delica Stainless that I've been carrying for a few months now and love it. Every so often one slips through QC, no matter what company or product you talk about.

well damn.... i just received my mini manix yesterday and just noticed that my blade is off centered as well after reading this thread. My blade isn't touching the handle, but is noticeably not lined up. Is this something that will get worse over time (blade eventually rubbing handle) or should i not even worry about it. Overall the mini manix is a stout knife.
