Should I wait for the Custom shop to reopen?

So I got bitten by the Busse addiction bug and leaped into the deep end. Now, I'm a happy owner of some NMFMBs and NMSFNOs, with my eye on the upcoming Park Ranger. However, I've been wanting to upgrade my existing small INFI collection with some mods such as:
-convex grinding
-paint stripping w/ satin finishing or stonewashing
-change the grip material and rivets (is that even possible?)
-adding a swedge
Unfortunately, I learned that the Custom Shop is closed for a while and am considering the services of Norcalwhitetail or Razoredgeknives. But would it void my warranty and I can't bring it into the official custom shop in the future?

Some of the knives range from well used to mint condition. What would you guys recommend? Thanks!

I personally don't see the custom shop opening anytime soon. There has been no mention of it and truthfully it's probably more profitable to use the labor force to make production knives.

All the mods you mentioned can be performed and in my opinion would not cause any warranty issues. Busse is beyond fair with their warranty and they aren't trying to dodge a true issue because you sharpened a a wedge.
Both ships that you mentioned do great work. I have personally been using Josh at Razor sharp lately and highly recommend him.

I plan on sending some of my infi Joshes way this winter for some of the same treatment! ;)

Thanks for the comments and good to know the endorsement for Josh! For your seasoned Busse owners, I've been wavering if I should acid stonewash + add a short, sharpened swedge on to one of my NMSFNOs. Is that sacrilege or a good mod? I'm trying to add versatility and durability.

Busse honor warranty when someone break a tip while unscrewing a screw or when a lawmower run over a knife or try to cut a metal chain in a half or ...

(Anyone got the full list???)

I think, im sure the boss will jump in to confirm, that your fine ;)

Wasn't someone shooting the edge to split bullets (and accidentaly hit the handle, which was what needed fixing)?

ETA:

he orignal seems to be a victim of Photobucket's suicide attempt, but you can almost read this from Google images cache:

At least I think that's it. Can't really read it that well.

And here's the thread where Jerry talks about Busse's warranty: Sneak Peek At New BLADE Magazing Ad . . . . . Busse Warranty Content. . . .

Wild Warranty Claims? . . . . We've Had A Few. . .

One of them was so wild, we made a full page ad out of it for Blade Magazine.

The customer was splitting bullets on his knife's edge. He was doing pretty good until he started shooting low!

We have changed the customer's name but this is the exact wording from our correspondence.

Here are close-ups of the knife handle and letter. . .

Here's a close-up of the blade. He had several good shots at the blade!

Let's Drink!

I believe that Busse Combat will Repair, Replace (if a blank is available) or Give Shop Credit to any Blade that fails under reasonable circumstances....However if there is a possibility of damage/failure related to Aftermarket Customization NOT performed by Busse Combat it's at the discretion of the BOSSMAN. That's pretty much the last word I recall from the company regarding warranty claims.
I don't believe they will cover all claims when it's obvious the failure was due to poor workmanship from other vendors.

Jerry is a very REASONABLE Manufacturer and Likes a Good Story so if you have a problem You might want to involve a story about Alien Abduction:eek::eek::)

There have been some pretty crazy warranty requests in the past and Jerry still says he has never turned one down. Considering many of those involved damage that could have very easily been avoided, I think sharpening or regrinding would be the least of your worries. New handle materials on the other hand would probably be a different matter since they are not made by Busse. ;)

I want some G-10 swapped out for micarta..I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'll have to look for the model on the secondary market w/ micarta..and sell the one I have.

Thought about custom/after market..but I love the way Busse does the scales..

This is true and we Only get to hear of a few that Stand Out for Crazy....

I dont think you'll have any warranty concerns with mods done by established shops. Now if you were to take it out to your shed and put a swedge on with an angle grinder they'd probably frown on that..... and still cover it...

adding a swedge should be easy to find, but paint stripping might be a trickier issue from non Busse sources because of the laser engraving and such.

I would like to get the coating stripped from my SFNO but I don't think anyone else should do it but Busse.

This is pretty much how I see things.

If you shave a knife down to 1/8" and then snap it....when it used to be, 0.35".....might not cover that.

But Busse has covered some wacky stuff with no complaints....so....just be reasonable.

Refinishing without structural or heat treat modifying acts.....i wouldn't think busse would deny claims for it (they won't cover the aftermarket work, obviously
