Should my new Spin have an imperfection in it's Spydie-hole?

This is my first Spyderco, and it's the acid etched version, and I really love it. However, it has an imperfection, like a bump (I'm certain it's part of the metal), inside the Spyder-hole, that I just can't stand... is this common, something I can fix with sand paper, or am I better off sending it to Spyderco (I tried to get a good picture, but i don't have the best digital camera in the world... and the batteries died)?

Don't tell me to live with it, I've attempted to ignore it, but I'm a perfectionist and I can't. I imagine Sal would feel the same way :P

Otherwise, the action, fit & finish on the knife are great, and it's certainly not going to be my last Spydie (maybe my last small Spydie... this knife is incredible for the size)!

P.S.: Do I get a free Spyder-hole disk with the purchase of my knife?

P.S.P.S.: I'll throw some of my not-so incredible pictures of the knife on here in a few minutes.

And there you have it, my not so great pictures :) (If someone has tips on how to get a good shot of the Spydie hole, I'm happy to hear them)

My Dragonfly has a uneven part in the Spyderhole, but since it's pretty small, I don't really care.

Is this a round bump, or is it more of a uneven line?

It's kind of a round bump I guess... like the metal was melted when they took the hole out and part stuck like cheese and was pulled then settled as a bump... if you get what I'm saying.

If it looks like a small bump in one part of the hole that is like a line across the hole I have that too. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's where they started to laser cut the hole out of the blade.

If you cannot live with it take a small round file or a dremel and grind/sand it off.

Also, does your camera have a "macro" setting? It will look like a flower picture somewhere on the camera. If you enable "macro" then you will be able to focus on really close up things and take pictures.

I see... the Delica I bought for my brothers birthday has no such bump (I, of course, had to inspect the knife to make sure it was flawless :P), though there are visible lines in the hole (it's completely smooth though).

I guess I'll just try and live with it, unless anyone has an idiot-proof way of sanding it away... :)

Sanding is pretty idiot proof, but using a dremel. :grumpy: :(

Hah, thanks for the tip (*slaps head*)!

It should be pretty obvious, and I'll try and get some better pictures of the knife for you all to drool over (:P)!

Stupid camera wont stay on even plugged in DC... this thing goes through batteries faster than a Gameboy.

Because of the way the laser cuts the Spyderhole, a small bump like that is occasionally left at the point inside the hole where the cut completed. I would not consider it a defect unless it were very pronounced, or sharp enough to create the risk of cutting your thumb on it.

My CF Military has some imperfections in the spyderhole as well.

It is said to be quite often with Spydercos to have imperfections in the hole.

Don't bother with it.

All of my Spydercos except my ZDP/CF Calypso 3 have some roughness and sometimes a bump inside the Spyderhole. On the nicer ones I smooth it out, but on my worker blades, I just leave it.

It seems that the thinner knives are drilled out rather than laser cut, my Civilian has some pretty deep machining marks inside the hole, but the ZDP Caly 3 is much smoother.

While we’re doing macro shots…

Just in case anyone wants to know. These were taken with a Canon S3IS and a Raynox MSN-202 Macro/Close-up lens.
You can get the macro lens and adapter from http://www.lensmateonline.com/

Very nice. I didn't thought these adapters were so good in quality

And that’s not even maximum zoom. The trouble is it’s very hard to get it focused, a good tripod is highly recommended for this type of shot.
