Should the COA for the Buck Of the Month say "750 made, plus Overruns and Factory Blemished" ?

If you want to own a really nice, unique Buck knife then you can literally order a one-of-a-kind knife via their Custom Shop.

Craft your own unique variation of classics like the Buck 110, 112, and 119 from a selection of different steels, woods, sheaths, finishes, engraving, and even luxurious presentation boxes.

To me, these are not one-of-a-kind (far from it).

Most of these knives, in the various options, can be ordered in many multiples, until your money runs out (and then other people can keep ordering that same knife until their money runs out). All of these knives will look virtually the same. The exception is the (slight, at times) variation in like materials of the handles. But remember, the Walnut, Cherrywood, and Oak are not natural wood. They are a composite, stained to look like real wood. There is a thread, somewhere here on Bladeforums, which goes over this information which is not detailed by Buck on the Buck website.

Order 5 or 10 of the same, for example - 110 with S30V Oak or walnut brass rivets or no, etc. They will all look the same (or just about). You can do this with many of the different combinations available, all of which can be ordered all of the time (or until Buck changes the options; which happens infrequently).

But, to all that like these Custom Shop options, enjoy. I sincerely mean that. (Now, if we were talking about the true Custom Shop of Old - so . . . many . . . choices ! ! ! !)

Uncle Buckmaster - nice dream knife !

i have seen the exact gold etch knife sold as : reg production, limited edition, custom, and in different years such as the 25 years knife having blade mark for several different years

Should the COA for the Buck Of the Month say, for example, "750 made, plus Overruns and Factory Blemished". I ask this because in the last year (or two) I have seen 8 different BOTM models for sale on the bay as "Overruns" or "Factory Blemished". That is without even trying to look for such knives. So I am sure there are a few more models I have missed.

And yes, the July BOTM is currently listed as a Factory Blemish. Usually these knives come in a yellow box instead of the black box, and do not have a COA.

Just feels like it cheapens the whole exclusivity of the BOTM if these Overruns and Factory Blemished knives are available on a consistent basis from Buck. And yes, most (all ?) of the knives I have seen are from one seller. I believe this person is a forum member. I am not calling that person out. Their business is their business. More power to them. And from what I have read, they are an excellent seller and person.

It is Buck that I feel is cheating their customers by consistently offering Overruns and Factory Blemished knives of the BOTM. The COA says "750" but really it is "750" plus the unknown (to the public) and not stated number of Overruns and Factory Blemished knives.

Rant finished.

Follow me to the factory if you agree ! Pitchforks and torches will be provided on a first come first served basis : )

Ok, so the factory had fire suppressant systems and our pitchforks were too heavy to carry up the hill so we tossed those aside half way up. But, I'm running back up that hill again, better prepared with new running shoes, flash lights and small shovels in hand. Who is with me ? ! ! ? ? ?

The new devil in the details ! Usually these knives do not have a BOTM COA. But now I've seen 2 different models which do have BOTM COA's, and multiple knives of each are for sale.

+ 112 Ranger April 2022 – No “FB” on knife, only “FACTORY BLEM” on box. Nylon sheath instead of the black leather that came with the BOTM. 3 currently for sale.

+ 113 Ranger Skinner August 2022 – No “FB” on knife, only “FACTORY BLEM” on box. Black leather sheath instead of the distressed brown that came with the BOTM. Counted 3 sold and 1 currently for sale.

The other issue, besides now having COA's, is the lack of any distinguishing mark on the "Overrun" or "Factory Blemished" knife. "FB" is sometimes put on these knives, but not always as the current models for sale. Now you have a Factory Blem knife that is identical to a 'regularly' sold BOTM, and with a COA.

As, I said before in my first post - Just feels like it cheapens the whole exclusivity of the BOTM if these Overruns and Factory Blemished knives are available on a consistent basis from Buck. And yes, most (all ?) of the knives I have seen are from one seller. I believe this person is a forum member. I am not calling that person out. Their business is their business. More power to them. And from what I have read, they are an excellent seller and person.

Sign up sheets are at the back of the room to join "Don't make more than 300 of the BOTM club" (DMMT300OTBOTM Club).

If there's already 750 of them out there, I doubt another 10 makes a difference.
And what's to say those 10 aren't part of the 750.....?
740, 765, 771....... omigosh, I don't want it anymore.
That's 21 too many.....😴😴😴

Enjoy your quest tho.

I was also wondering if the Factory Blems could be part of the 750.

In my Quest, I do buy and then destroy a regular production (not factory blem) BOTM for every factory blem knife I see for sale. Trying to help Buck remain honest about their selling practices. This way the BOTM COA will always be held to the highest standards of truth.

I’ve yet to see a Buck of the month worth the asking price. Just my opinion.

The real problem is once you have bought so many at true bargain prices over the years a 'normal' price/deal seems really high. I miss those days..For the most part a run of 500 or 750 will be enough for collectors who really want one. Buck has always hated to trash good parts and the result was cool build outs and especially now sales in the factory store. That's where the bargains are found now.
