Should the coating on this knife be okay? (Ontario Rat-1)

Ive looked around at a few other knives in this price range, and decided on the Ontario Rat-1, so I ordered it earlier this week...

I went with the black blade/blade handle combination, now Im thinking maybe it wasnt the best choice, because the blade coating is just paint, LOL.

How durable is the Ontario Rat-1 black coating? Does anyone have experience with this?

(I hate having second thoughts when ordering a knife, but the choices were tough, light tan, green, black, serrations, etc...:()

Many thanks.

Well, the coating is teflon, so it's not quite as bad as being just "paint". ;)

Anyway, I have a black-bladed RAT-1 that I've cut a ton of cardboard with, and the coating has held up well. The coating has worn off a bit just above the edge, but is fine on the rest of the blade.

Hi Neuron, thanks for the fast reply.

Is the coating really Teflon? If so thats great...I may have misread a review where someone mentioned the coating was paint, otherwise there isn't much information on the coating when I Googled about it.

Anyway, how do you like the knife?

Thanks.

It's great. Excellent build quality, very good heat treat on the AUS-8, good ergos, rock-solid lockup, etc. Its reputation as one of the best "value" folders out there is very well-deserved.

Let's say...in theory...it is paint. And it comes off.

So what?

It's stainless AUS-8 underneath...so it's not going to rust.
