The new M9 is pretty sick. I also got some old rats last week.

Sorry for the rainy day shots.

Well...just for the fact that the M9 is not INFI...I don't think the FBM should feel too threatened. However...I certainly would love to own an M9:thumbup:

I think the rep behind the fbm can stand pretty firmly. It's been around and people have seen what it can do and handle what it is really like. When it's in your hand, you just know...

The M9LE is very Nice, but a FBM is...well a FBM, thats all:thumbup:

Nice blades bro. The RM will give the FBM a run for it's money (Infi will triumph, but it won't be easy...)

I just took my brand new M9LE out today and did a little chop off against the Ranger RD9, Becker BK-9 and NMSFNO. The 9" bowies all chopped pretty close, with the M9 taking them by a small margin. But my convexed NMSFNO crushed them! I didn't even need to break out the FBM. I really like the M9LE a lot. It's a beautiful bowie at a super price, and I love good fast bowies. But no way will it out do the FBM.

The only reason the FBM shouldn't feel threatened is that it's INFI and the M9 isn't. That being said, I love my M9 and don't think I'll be able to beat it hard enough to tell the difference:D

Horn Dog, how do you think the M9 would stack up to the NMSFNO with an edge straight from the shop?

Thanks,

GregB

I don't know for sure, but I think the NMSFNO would still out chop it. Mine outchopped my Ratweiler while it was still coated. But it had a convex edge on it already. The M9 is a wonderful bowie, and I just love it, but the NMSFNO seems to be more of a hard use chopper. Maybe somebody will compare those two knives with factory edges and answer the question for us.

I've got one comin to me to work on.. I really like the looks of that M9. Most people do not Abuse,, not use a knife enough to reap the benifits between steel.. I'm lookin forward to workin one this one,,

wasn't the fbm rated top 20 modern knife designs all time. speaks for itself. i passed on the m9 only because of this rotton economy. also had to pass on tha sar4. same reason. :grumpy:

so in response to your question, NO

no regrets!

cheers, kimo

The M9's handle doesn't look appealing to me. Doesn't look like it would provide a secure enough grip when chopping, I'll stick with my BM's.

After all, this is the BUSSE forum.

Jeremy is getting my M9LE for his special brand of edge treatment. I would expect it will become a very efficient chopper once the proper edge geometry is created.

Not having a FBM I can't say if the M9 can compete on the same level but personally I'm a big fan of the M9's blade shape over that of the FBM. I like leaner pointier blades.

The M9 is not a chopper, it is a bowie type blade, it is a stabber and a slasher, not as much a chopper (in my humble and unqualified opinion). It is a big fast hunk of flesh eating steel. And the handle is better to hold than to look at. As for replacing a BM, that would be like asking if a fork would replace a spoon, sure you can eat with either one, but it is better to keep both handy.

It would be interesting to know the weight differences between the two....because the FBMCG is not a heavy knife and would seem to be in the same bracket as the M9LE when it comes to cutting and slashing....I don't really see them as being as far apart as some others seem to think. The only threat to me between the two would be on value for money....the M9 LE is a lot cheaper for what you get.

CGFBM: 27.6, balances at the front of the choil (magnum canvas micarta)
M9LE: 19.5, balances in the middle of the choil (G10)

The M9LE has more of a neutral balance. The CGFBM is a chopping machine!

I don't own an M9, but do own a couple FBMs. Like a couple others said the handle on the M9 does look a little small for a good grip for chopping.

The M9 looks like a sweet knife, but I really doubt it could outchop the FBM.
