The Gallery has been just a little slow lately, it's true. But, bf.c has been a bit slow as have the other knife forums. It's summer time. People are out using their knives and taking pictures of wonderful scenery.

In my case, there are two factors: first, I take my pictures under "hot lights." Hot lights are called hot since they run full brightness all the time making it easier to resolve reflection issues and get exposures right. But, they're also called hot since they are hot. Working under 2000 Watts of light when it's 85 degrees in the house already is just to much.

My second factor is that Kodak has changed the packaging of the film that I use. The film hasn't changed. They just came up with some catchy new graphics for the box. Unfortunately, they didn't plan the transition very well and ran out of old-style boxes before the new ones came in. Nobody has had this film for over a month now. I finally got two boxes on Friday and I've taken some pictures. Now, I've got to develope them. Hopefully, I'll get that done tomorrow. Then, I'll have to scan 'em. I hope to get a few posted by the middle of the week.

Maybe other people are in similar conditions.

Just because a specific forum has been a bit slow for a few weeks doesn't mean we must rush to immediately close it down.

Why would you even suggest it? Is this forum hurting you?

I'll bet that you're secretly jealous of the many fine photographs of outstanding knives that have been posted there in the past and so you want to seize this opportunity to shut the thing down so that you won't have to look at other people's fine photographs of their outstanding knives.

You can see the statistics right on the forum menu. The Gallery forum is a less active forum, true, but it is certainly not the least active forum by far. The whole premise of your question, "The Gallery gets so little use," is invalid.

Absolutely not!
I go there to drool and get some idea of what the Hell you guys are talking about sometimes when ya sharing your newest treasure.:)
Mostly though, it's a good place to just go and drool and admire nice knives.

I voted no, as I have seen pictures of several knives here for the first time. I always check in to see what's new.

I voted no as well. The Gallery serves as a "photo album" of sorts in which images of various knives are chronicled there. And they are easier to find than searching the other, more traffic forums like Blade Discussion Forum. I peruse the Gallery often and enjoy drooling at other's knives.

The answer is NO!

If anything people should learn to use that forum more to show off their work or new purchases. I have to go to another knife related forum to even discuss Knife Photography. There's nothing I can think of that could benefit a knife makers business more than to learn how to take a good photo of their work. How many makers here depend on the Internet for all or part of their knife sales? How many know how to take a decent picture of their work? How many people would rather see a good picture of a good knife as opposed to a lousy picture of a great knife? Taking a good picture of a knife doesn't have to be hard or expensive, it's just a skill that needs to be learned.

Howdy There....!
I forone would certainly hope that it remains on the forum. I think that it is a great way for folks to show off their work and have it critqued. My voteis to keep it....!

"Possum":cool:

why remove the gallery? I check it frequently to see new pics of what's being made - I see no reason to get rid of it. What possible benefit would there be to nuking it????

Grreat what do I win?

I want to know the three guys that want it closed...common...fess up?

There sure do seem to be a lot of people lately who spend their time complaining about which parts of the forums are slow. What I don't understand is, if a slow forum bothers you, why not just make some posts?

I'm kinda new here. It strikes me that there would be more pic posts if the process for posting was a lot easier. Some fellow explained it to me and although I am computer literate I still can't quite
seem to figure it out. It should be as simple as attaching a pic to your e-mail. My two cent.

It isn't hard to post pictures at all. As a matter of fact, it IS as easy as attaching pictures to your e-mail, if you purchase a BladeForums membership.

Complaining about how the software should work doesn't change how it does work, and the process is not that complicated, even if all you do is use image tags to refer in-line to a picture posted elsewhere on the net.

For instance, the smiley images I often use are hosted elsewhere. All you need to do is cut and paste the URL and surround it with the IMG and /IMG tags (inside square brackets).

There's more activity in the Gallery than one may think. Just look at the "view" count. That should be a pretty good indicator as to how much activity the gallery sees. Not too many people post there, but there are quite a few spectators.

Exactly, Mr. Wulf. The Gallery forum is appropriately named. If you've ever been to an art gallery, you know that new postings are less frequent than viewings. In an art gallery, even the conversations are usually kept hushed so as not disturb others enjoyment.

True, true. Keep in mind that these are the proverbial dog days of summer. This is my third summer participating here and I can tell you that it always slows down over the summer. I can also tell you that newer folks and folks who don't participate often enough to feel the rhythms of the forum always complain about it.

But, these last few months have seemed especially bad for complaining. As my mother often says, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Frankly, I keep forgetting about the Gallery forum. Whenever I do tho, I immediately go there, back up so I can see a longer run of posts than usual, and sit back and enjoy.

I wish more people posted pics there than do, for sure. I have a scanner I've owned for 2 years, but have no room to hook up. (A silly, thoughtless bid on E-bay.) Don't have a digital camera, and my 35mm ison the fritz -- keep forgetting to take it in to get it fixed. So, am unable to contribute -- except for other people's pictures which I collect. I think many people could post pics of their production collections, but may think only customs are appropriate for the forum. I say, the more pics the merrier.

I'd like to see more pics, especially of collections. If not for the fact that most of my scans suck, I'd post pics of everything I bought (in one thread-not all over the place).

I enjoy the gallery and love to see the new knives pictured there. It is true that it would be nice if it was used more, but I will take what I can get.
