Should Umnumzaan replace sebbie

I don't really see the point of CRK having both the Umnumzaan and large sebbie in the line up. They can do similar things and similar size. Some people buy both but I think the Umnumzaan will take sales away from the sebbie because its newer, not necessarily better.

I think CRK will phase out the large sebbie and replace it with the Umnumzaan because its looks cheaper to manufacture and sells for slightly more so more profitable for CRK.

I don't think the Sebenza is going anywhere. You don't trade your star quarterback at the peak of his career. :D

Please send me some of what your smoking :jerkit: :yawn::yawn: Rickster :yawn::yawn:

Sebenza is the Flag-Ship of the product line, It will be there as long as Chris & Ann are. :D Sebenza Lover :D:

In a recent interview I recall Mr.Reeve saying the Sebenza was to CRK what the 911 is to Porsche. A great analogy that speaks volumes. I would be willing to bet that the Sebbie outsells everything else by a wide margin.

Hi Shing,

With the greatest of respect, save the stirring for the political sickbag arena.

Your second comment is geared 100% for a reaction as a child could see quite clearly. But I will take a small bite from you and answer by saying that anyone around CRK equipment for a few minutes, never mind years (like yourself, who is actually making knives based on the Sebenza design) could see that the idea of Chris Reeve or anyone else involved being driven by higher profits / cheaper manufacture over years of sweat, tradition and customer gratitude in the shape of the wonderful Sebenza is really trying to stir the pot with no basis whatsoever in reality.

Come on mate, did you run out of politicians and theories and come here to stretch the elastic band?

:(

what makes you think they will phase it out?

CRK just released the insingo, which is a variation of the sebenza.

Plus, I don't think CRK is very profit oriented.

Exactly. CRK would not be the same without the Sebenza in the lineup. It is the knife that makes the company. Just like with Porsche, I think the 911 will only go down if the entire brand name dies out, and even then another manufacturer will most likely pick the 911 back up. The Sebenza and 911 are both here to stay until the doomsday of pocket knives and sports cars.

CRK only has 4 folding knives in their current lineup and you're already suggesting to take one out for redundancy. Take a look at other companies much? By that logic, why not get rid of the small seb too. The Mnandi is newer and more gentlemanly in basically the same size and price.

+1 But without "the greatest of respect."

Just a quick aside -- I'm guessing some of you recall when Porsche was pushin' the 924/944/928 over the "aging" 911. I remember all the predictions that the 911 would be dropped in favor of the latest 'n' greatest line up . . . of course, the new line up didn't survive. Not drawing any conclusions re: CRK's product line, just recalling another case of "New Coke" failure.

Now, back to your regularly schedule program . . .

Interesting, did not know that. I was not alive to see this phenomenon take place but am familiar with the 924/944/928/968. It's a shame Porsche didn't pursue the front engined, rear wheel drive platform further. Maybe those wonky German engineers thought it was too conformist :D However, upon further consideration, I don't think the situation with the Sebenza and Umnuumzan is quite comparable to the 911 vs. 928/944. If I'm not mistaken, the 911s of old were quite the monsters - unpredictable, harsh, just overall difficult to drive fast and maintain. Porsche did the automotive world a great favor by sticking to the 911 design and refining it over the decades to create what is currently the yardstick in supercar performance. But the Sebenza is already honed to near perfection and would be more akin to dropping the current production 911 for the boxster/cayman platforms. The latter are great cars, but they're no 911.

Back to your scheduled program...

if CRK disco'd the sebenza that would be like ford disco'ing the mustang
they will probably not, will not, disco the seb. like others have said it is their flagship. when i think of chris reeve i think sebenza.

Coming from someone who sells knives, I'd like to say this is funny, but I can't. Give us a call in 20 years and let us know if any of the knives you're selling today are still being sold in quantity?

So much stupidity in so few words...
