Should Umnumzaan replace sebbie

The Umnumzaan Is A Excellent Knife, But Its NO Sebenza !!! .........Its NO Coincidence That Two Of The Greatest Folding Knives Ever Designed Was Designed By Mr. Chris Reeve !!!

Every other production knife company has multiple knives on the books, some quite similar to each other as well.
I don't see why CRK should be any different, especially with the one pice knives being brought to an end.

I think the umnumzaan should compete more with the sebbie, by offering more pimped up versions of it.
No, it shouldnt' go, too much fun to be able to collect new ones in the future :)

I just hope and pray that Chris sells the large regular sebenza again. that does not belong in a collector's sphere only.

I just want to say that I love my umnumzaan. I've sold most of my other knives because I feel that it's replaced a handful of them. It's got insanely smooth action, totally solid lockup (without any framelock sticking) and even has my favorite appearance in a knife. That's all, haha.

I don't really see the point of CRK having both the Umnumzaan and large sebbie in the line up. They can do similar things and similar size. Some people buy both but I think the Umnumzaan will take sales away from the sebbie because its newer, not necessarily better.

I think CRK will phase out the large sebbie and replace it with the Umnumzaan because its looks cheaper to manufacture and sells for slightly more so more profitable for CRK.

I have handled both, and both are quality tools (currently, I only own the Sebenza). At first glance, the Umnumzaan and the Sebenza appear to be quite similar, but there are quite a few differences:

1. The Umnumzaan's blade is thicker than the Sebenza's blade.
2. The Umnum has a glassbreaker while the Sebenza does not.
3. The Umnum comes standard with double thumb lugs while the Sebenza does not.
4. The Umnum comes standard with a swedge (I have only seen a handful of swedged Sebenzas).
5. The Umnumzaan uses a ball in the lock bar face; the Sebenza does not.
6. The Sebenza uses a pivot bushing; the Umnumzaan does not.
7. The Sebenza can be ordered with or without inlays. Currently, the Umnumzaan is only offered with blasted handles. (Yes, there are a couple custom Embellished Umnum's out there.)
8. The Sebenza can be ordered with a Damascus blade. Currently, the Umnum is only offered in S30V.
9. The Sebenza is offered in two sizes while the Umnumzaan only comes in "large".
10. The Sebenza uses standard Allen screws for all fasteners; the Umnumzaan pivot requires a different tool.

Yes, the knives are similar in cutting capability, but as you can see, the Sebenza is more customizable. I think the availibility of options has been a huge factor in the Sebenza's success. Just look at the variety of Sebenza's out there. I don't see CRK phasing it out in favor of the Umnumzaan. Just my two cents. ;)

Then what would folks (such as myself...) who prefer the Sebenza over the Umnumzaan do?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Shing is a troll. He posts a clumsily controversial remark and disappears. You can see he's better suited to certain other subforums. :p

Carry on, ladies and gentlemen. I believe we understand the Reeve ethic and expertise better than this strange person does.

I for one would like to see CRK bring back the "P" sebenza style. It had the regular style blade and the classic/21 style handle. For me and many others, it was the best of both worlds. I have never been lucky enought to acquire one. It would not hurt the collectibility of the "P" sebbies either because they were marked and unique. These could be marked or left blank signifing the difference. Please Mr. Reeve !!!
