i think i have seen a picture of a gentleman's shoulder rig on here before i registered... can someone post a link or a picture of a shoulder rig for a knife... (under the arm carry) i am thinking about getting one and dont know where to look or where to get one made... any help is welcomed!

The shoulder rigs I like were shown in the movie "Exposure". If I ever got one I was going play the movie, stop it a few times in appropriate spots, take a few pictures of the screen with my digital camera, print them out and take them to the leathersmith. That way I could show him exactly what I wanted and could also get a measured custom fit. The rigs in the movie looked comfortable and quiet (made from leather) and were designed for a quick "down-pull" of a medium to large fixed blade. If you are interested, the movie is available, used, on Amazon in VHS format (not made anymore). Plus, you have a great movie to see with the best knife work of any movie there is.

Regards

Hey Recon...

If it's extremely simple you want,, then the Mercharness is for you...
Easily the most comfortable rig I've used,,and is my Go To rig for a number of small to medium fixed blades, including my new Speed Dialer for Waved Spydercos.

A Very simply, Inexpensive rig that works awesome and is low key,,so it can be carried hidden easily..

It's also been adopted and will be used on some CRKT knives...

Eric, are you familiar with the Benchmade 175 push dagger? If so, can you make me a rig EXACTLY like the one you have in the first picture you posted? thats all i want!!!! something simple like that... That is actually EXACTLY what i had envisioned... I just need a sheath for the 175 that will not scratch the blade like the crummy sheath benchmade sends with this amazing little knife... I am willing to purchase one ASAP if you can do this for me.. Thank you. I will be in touch.

I have carried a full size K-Bar all day on a mercharness. The weight is across your back and not your neck so fatigue is very minimal even with something that big. I would say the average size blade worn is around say a Tom Krein TK8

I was just coming to suggest the Mercharness. But you guys all beat me to it.

I would also suggest a merchharness...I have been using mine for a couple weeks and LOVE IT!!!

Eric is also a good choice for drastic plastic or kydex if you prefer!!

The movie exposure is a very underrated flix!!

i want him to make me one, i hope we can get something up and running... i dont know if he can make it for the 175 though... and if he cant, i am not interested... but surely to goodness, he can figure something out... ya know.

Has anyone gotten a good screen capture of the harness? If so, can you post or e-mail it to me? I do a few different shoulder rigs and always looking for different patterns! :D

Leatherman, you maje shoulder harnesses? What about actual sheaths? Let me know man...

And to those who might respond to leather, PLEASE POST THEM IN THE THREAD SO I CAN SEE THEM AS WELL. Thanks.:thumbup:

I am not skilled enough to do kydex, I leave that to Eric. I just do the harnesses.

Yup, click the link in my sig line. :)

anyone got a good image of the rig yet? All I could find was a partial view of one side of the harness. The part I could see looks nice! Very substantial.

I like Mercops rig for warm weather carry, especially around here, San Antonio is hot and muggy, one doesnt want stuff hugging the body when its 90 and uber humid.

OK let me get this straight mercop is not the guy who makes the sheaths. but he makes the actual harness or shoulder rig, minus the sheath... normark or whatever makes the actual sheath... problem is, i was wanting to get away from the kydex because that is what the benchmade 175 sheath is made of and i hate it... i need to get a good shoulder rig for this thing soon..... i am dying to get it back out there for edc...someone please make sure i got all the info right this time... LOL

Sounds like you have the right idea now...

Mercop= merchharness

Normark=Kydex sheaths that rock

Leatherman=Leathersheaths that rock

Leatherface=I WANNA ROCK!!! :p

But I digress...

yo Dwayne...IIRC the shoulder rig was similar to a boot knife sheath (small retaining strap on sheath) with leather straps similar to the merchharness...It has been ALONG time since I seen it though...I got interested in knife training from this film...That is the only reason I remember any of it...And my copy of it died last Sept!! :grumpy:

Just one guy talking I don't EDC blades in leather, it squeeks, sweats and loosens up. There is also no comparison between a factory kydex sheath and one of Normarks. Many others can attest to that.
