I have a maxpedition Devil Dog that I carry a lot in the woods but I don't use it as a lumbar bag, I carry it with the shoulder strap. I find the strap that came with it too narrow to be comfortable. Does anyone know a good source for straps?

Definitely check out camera shops. Photogs are always packing around heavy gear that gets wrecked if a strap breaks - just ask Les Stroud. I've used a LowePro Voyager style(old one, similar style) as a daybag/canteen strap. If you can find them in a thrift store they're almost free. My wife has a padded guitar strap I've been meaning to steal as well.....

Thanks all. Didn't see anything at actiongear so I checked out the maxpedition site, the pad they show looks a lot more like the one that came with my Fatboy. The one they gave me with DD is really narrow. I might just buy the wider strap from L & C, it might help distribute the weight better. I don't know about other people but this is significant issue to me. I carry a packs a lot and the straps and weight become important as the hours go by...

I bought a wide, canvas shoulder strap at a local army/navy surplus store and use it instead of the nylon strap furnished with the Maxpedition Toadstool. It has steel spring clips at each end. The strap is adjustable in length and the store stocked them in olive drab green and black.

The softer canvas strap does not cut into nor slip off my shoulders as the nylon strap does. It was new and looks military surplus though I don't know its original intended use.

Check the stores in your area.
