I just got back from shoulder surgery, simple bone spur turned out to be a torn rotator cuff with a big bone spur growing through it (no Mace, not on my hammer side, the hammer shoulder is fine, yeah I know . . . issues) looks like 6-8 weeks at least before I can forge again:(:(

That is a bummer. I know I have a torn rotator cuff myself. Not looking forward to having mine fixed. My is my left shoulder and it not my hammer arm either. So even with it not your primary arm he is going to make you wait 6-8 weeks. Damn, I may never get miine done then, but then I do not follow orders either. Good luck with your shoulder.

That is painful. I tore my rotator cuff two years ago this month. Took two years to heal (no surgery, I just let it heal itself).

From what I hear surgery is a better option, I just hate being cut up. Besides, whats a little pain, eh?

Hope you get better.

During these 2 months, you should just touch up on stock removal techniques, if you can use your arm okay. I don't really know how the surgery affects movement.

There's torn rotator cuffs, and then there's TORN rotator cuffs. Many people can heal up fine with small tears through conservative therapies, but other's need that repair. That's why we pay the surgeons the big bucks...to make that determination and fix it up for us.

Page, hope you heal up well and fast. BTW, was the spur off of the bottom of the acromion? I've seen a bunch of tears from similar causes. If so, glad they got that spur out of there.

I've got some problems with psoriatic arthritis myself (a lesser cousin of rheumatoid arthritis). It's finally gotten bad enough to mess with me on a daily basis, so I've got an appointment with a rheumatologist in May to see what I need to do. Hopefully it won't set me back from being able to learn forging on the new (to me) anvil I've got coming in.

God speed on the recovery, Page!

yes the bone spur(s) were growing off the bottom of the acromion and impinging motion.

I have a very good surgeon, I ditched the first two surgeons I talked to who said it was nothing, live with it and found one who would actually talk to me for more than two minutes, she took it seriously,

Ouch, Linda had a torn rotator cuff several years ago. She said the therepy after surgery hurt more than the torn cuff. Healed up real well though.

Good luck with your recovery Page.

6-8 weeks total disability, no driving, no moving my elbow away from my side, no lifting anything for 3-6 months or more
my summer is shot to hell!

:grumpy:

Hang in there, Page. Be blessed in knowing that this is a temporary thing. Good luck in your recovery!

I have a couple of friends who also had a torn rotator cuff. Both did not like the therapy after the surgery, but both now agree with what their Docs said.....recovering use of that shoulder after the surgery is a direct result of how well you execute the therapy. Good Luck! and Get Well!

Take care Page! I wondered if it was your hammer hand, as I couldn't hear the ringing for awhile there....:D
