Based on our collective success at naming a large number of patterns, I thought it would be interesting to see as many as possible. Feel free to add new patterns or fine egs of previous ones. If you have any info on the pattern that would be great too. I'll start with the sleeveboard lobster. Lobsters have internal springs to allow the attachements to open from both sides. The sleeveboard is named after the shape of the small ironing board that was used in Victorian times to press... you guessed it... the shirt sleeves of well to do gentlemen.

A nice example of a 19th cent smoker's knife. This one was made by Christopher Johnson Western Works Sheffield. It has everything the Victorian smoker might need... including a spring-loaded cigar cutter and pipe tamper. Also include is a button-hook, file and of course a few blades. A more complicated example of the general lobster pattern. Nice little decoration on top and milled brass liners. They don't make these anymore.

Rick,

Who is the maker of that great looking sowbelly???

Thanks,

Here's a pattern with some obvious traits, but it seems like it needs a name all its own!! I've also posted it in the HJ thread!

That would be Rick Nowland. It is a great little knife. About 3.5" long, blades of ATS-34, integral bolsters and liners. Decent snap, but not a nail buster. The Toenail is from Jeff Claiborne and it takes an inordinate effort to get the small pen blade open. Blades on it are 52100.
