Show me the "Real McCoy's" Articles of the Early day Traditional Knives

Cool stuff guys. Has anyone else noticed the change in handwriting style over the years?

I agree as well Mark. My grandmother went to a one room School house on the prairies of ND. She won an award for best penmanship and always had BEAUTIFUL hand writing (similar to the above handwritten orders) then in her later years she worked at a small gift store in the town I live in today. They also sold nice pen/pencil sets, so my brothers and cousins and I would receive very nice notebooks and writing instruments for Christmas gifts.

Sarah P~, and I spoke of this after Sarah had sent me a very neat card, we pm'd after I received it and I told her it immediately reminded me of my grandmother's handwriting. Sadly it's become a lost art.

Jeff, A sweet Schrade there for sure. You gotto love the packaging stuff. Nice find Sir!

Thanks, TD. I was struck by the sharpening method being to draw the blade across the stone spine first in a stropping motion, not pushing it edge first in a slicing motion.

Paul,

And you should be pretty dog gone proud of your grandmothers Efforts. IMO another Technology failure.. Would it be nice if what was important was individual skills other than the stamped electronic mission that seems generic to the masses and of no value. The inability to recognize personality in individuals, is total failure and is IMHO why the US is in decline in this very important area.

This is a great thread, I have always liked the advertising etc items too. Here are a few. The Cattaraugus letter openers Derek and I thin k they were given out at the Pan Am Expo 1901 but can't say for sure.

Thanks guys, here are some more. The Cattaraugus lamp is not mine, I wish it was!! The bottle of Cutlers ink is really a cool piece!!

 Incredible display! The openers are particularly great, I am fetishizing the bottom one. Are they MOP?

This is an awesome thread, for sure. I wish I had something to contribute but it does give me some impetus to seek some non-knife knifestuff out.

Mike, Had a feeling you would come out to play..... Very cool items for Sure!!

Not sure if I posted this before but this hung in the Cattaraugus factory for years. Tint Champlin is the boy in the middle!!

Here are a few more, very rare JBF Champlin trade card plus some Electric cutlery items and a New York Knife company display piece, wish I had the NYK that went on the display!!

What a great thread.

Makes me very nostalgic. I remember stories about my grandfather. He got his first gun, a double barreled Damascus shotgun in a trade for a pair of rollerskates!!!

We still have that gun!!! I have his old barlow, and my dad has his old strop and razor.

I wish I could go back in time and encourage all my ancestors to save those little moments and paperwork etc, that today we find so interesting.

Mike, It is very rare to see any Electric Cutlery Knives let alone those pieces.... Nice

Mike I would love to see your collection! Neat stuff. I have just begun to collect this type of material and know how hard it is to find.
Charles
