Ok so this all started with me wanting to modify (read unscrew and through into the weeds) the pocket clip on my Cold Steel Holdout. From day one it was too tight to remove from a pocket without that extreme clawing sensation that tells you in short order your cloths are going to look like something street people are going to be offended to look at.
I unsprung it a little the day I got the knife and now with thicker clothing for winter I am looking at some serious metal removal to get it elastic enough to comply.
Show me some of the best pocket clip designs out there; especially when used on textured handles.
Obviously smoothing the texture and using a much longer clip is the solution but I would like to see what all else is happening out there.
I am imagining multi pivot points and adjustable coil spring loaded linkages. Perhaps with onboard solar powered, micro computers with laser optic cloth density sensing ability to self adjust on the fly.
Ironically my cheapest tactical knife has pretty much the clip I would add to the Hold Out. See the one on the far right in the first photo. I will probably cut a slot like that in the Hold Out's clip to take off some spring force.
I just bought the Gerber Remix as an inexpensive way to try out a tanto and a serrated blade at the same time. So dont laugh me out of the forum for that one. I have had neither up to that point.
For those interested in that knife : If you use it carefully for non tactical / (non extreme) use it is good enough quality, I kind of like it. The down side is the liner lock can stick to where you can not close it without a pry bar and I have seen at least one YouTube where whacking it on a table, ala Cold Steel test guys, it over comes the lock. The big pivot hinge is fun though and works well enough.
Anyway . . . mini rat hole excluded . . . show and tell me about pocket clips.
PS: How are the Sebenzas ? Are they to die for better than any other at adapting to various pockets ?
Two extremes I have in mind :
1. Duluth brand sweat pants (see two photos with the Dragonfly with the wire clip) ; they are super thick and heavy duty so have really thick pocket edges to match.
2. I find I sometimes want to clip my knife onto the edge of a tool belt clip on pocket, see photo. Why is the Hold Out not clipped on ? I thought we went over all that.
3. I still want to clip to thin material, a wind breaker or button up dress shirt. The Hold Out does well here and it is light enough it can be carried in a shirt pocket no problem. Why would I want to ? Im wearing that tool belt remember.
sooooo . . .
