Show me your favorite SECONDARY blade

Honestly this is a tough question. I rarely use a secondary but really prefer a knife with one. I like the idea of something smaller, probably sharper, and possibly differently shaped in reserve in case my main blade isn’t the optimal tool for some strange reason. I tend to carry single spring knives so the extra blade doesn’t really impose a weight or size penalty.

just about a little over half of these came with a second originally

"Originally" hahahha 🤣 you got enough removed secondaries you could have made a whittler or two.

I’d have to say the coping blade on the 86 is my favorite. The new 86 HJ with the punch may edge that but I haven’t had it long. A small sheepsfoot is in line with the ‘coping’ because it serves the same practical purposes I need it for. So all in all a small sheep foot variant is my most useful.

That said, the large pen on my 44 and 87 are pretty amazing as they’re basically ‘full size’ spear blades. So they’ll be a close #2 with the 44 taking the lead - so much blade in such a reasonable frame size!

And finally... Having the small sheepsfoot AND the small spey takes the cake. Even though this is more than one, when I’m purposefully choosing a knife with more than one blade it is very tough to not pick this up. Why? It does everything. Perfection.

After I posted the pic of the WT, I realised that they're both actually primary blades.
Eh maybe it's wrong lf me but I've always considered one the primary and the other a secondary

When it comes to coping blades I love the one on the 35 churchhills.

Interesting thread  I would say it's a Sheepfoot in my case, GEC's Churchill has a really good one and another opposite end 2 blade I like very much & use a lot is the Forum Knife 2018 from Buck, got to be the bargain Forum Knife of all time.

One blade I also like is alas rare, could do with more Pruner secondaries, think White Owl GEC 68 with one!

I don't know what's up with that victorinox but I hope they make more! It's been sold out since I first spotted it (not that long ago) and they seem to be like hens teeth. That is a great secondary blade!

RickHuf RickHuf Thanks and it's very disappointing they discontinued this one, a good handy Spear, slim frame and the mini Pruner is remarkably versatile- show it an awkward plastic packing & it's open with no danger

A white owl with a pruner is a fantastic idea. 👌

I've always been sorely jealous of those buck forum knives, I don't remember why I didn't get it that year...I was probably busy with the army or something. One of these days I'll hunt one down.

TheJon TheJon Yes keep a look out for one on the Exchange, well worth getting: nice scales, all steel and great stainless that gets and stays very sharp. I'm very fortunate to have a back-up one as you never know with a knife that's in frequent use  Stay cool with that 110° but you would not like our winter- nearly completely dark/twilight 2 months and can get down to -32C don't know what that is in your weird Fahrenheit but it's unpleasant!

I think GEC could develop the White Owl frame a bit more, another run of Spears and have other secondaries- Pruner, small Clip, Coping etc. Let's see, only problem is landing one o_O

I definitely agree. Although the last run of pony jacks and white owls wasn't very popular, so that might be a while. I would love a mini camp knife on that frame.

Talking of small Clips as a secondary, the CASE/Bose Norfolk has one and a very good change it is, bit of a devil to open though- it's sturdy.

Super underutilized. Small Clips are the best, perfect to put your finger on during detailed work.

TheJon TheJon I think GEC should have made different WOs last time, like I say different blade combos and if they offered it in stainless ( I have one from 2011, one of 5...) they might have been better received? I do like the Northfield bone I was fortunate to get though. A Camp Knife would burn down the Forum I believe :D:cool:

Thanks, Will
