a chunky, but not a fatty

I would say that it does not slice apples very well, they basically split.

Nice and sharp, however, and very handy. Convexed edge, glow in the dark in the front two flared handle tubes.

wish I had never asked. Some of you boys just have way toooo many knives.

thanks for the pics, I'm going to drink myself into a coma now as to ease my lack of INFI depression !!

The .140's will slice MUCH better than the fatties. Just ask Ban, or anyone thats use's knives alot. Pretty much common sence.
And at .140 they are still plenty thick for tough jobs. The ones .200 or over are great for prying, or cutting with edge only.

I only have a pic of a couple of mine.

Yes they will slice better. But I see the difference in very few situations.

Ok, You're right to some degree... The spine of a .14" GW with definitely cut something before the spine of a .27" GW. Good think I prefer to use the edge only! :p:D

Wanna pit the factory edge of your .14" GLGW against the modded edge of my .27" GLGW? ...Winner takes the loser's knife? ;)
THAT is the confidence I have in my GW's slicing performance. Common sense also dictates that the finer honed edge will slice smoother, better, deeper, quicker. :)

That's looks sweet Jaxx !

I've got a Fatty GLGW sitting upstairs, might half to start working. ;)

Completely agree. The .14 GW's are far better for all-around use than the fatter ones.

In terms of fragility, I could understand preferring the .14's to BAD's, but anything thicker than .14 in that size is starting to be a specialized tool - not the other way 'round.

Thanxx, man! ...Thought I had screwed it up beyond repair on an Edge-Pro when I tried to take the edge angle down, but it has turned out to be quite the handy user after I decided to convex it up! :)

Yep I agree! We are talking about cutting and slicing performance here correct? I will pit my zero convexed stupid sharp .140 GW against ANY GW in a slicing contest. The only one that will outslice it would be a thinner one :p

Thick spine knives will cut very well on softer material. But as soon as it tries to go through more resistant stuff like plastic or rubber, then performance will degrade quickly. Especially if the whole height of the blade is required to go through the material. Even medium resistant stuff like thick cardboard will immediately show a big difference in cutting efficiency between a .140 vs .270 GW.

I have never used my .140 GW to cut something and decided that I needed a thicker knife to finish the job. If I want to CUT something then I use a reasonably thin knife for efficiency. If I wanted to pry and break stuff apart then I suppose I would want to use something thicker like a stanley fubar ;)

I think that thick knives have their place because it gives the owner the feeling of being indestructible and rightfully so. I also feel that they are better suited for larger knives that could exert more leverage. But no one is going to convince me that a thick knife will out cut a thinner one.

If thick knives are better cutters and slicers...then more professional chefs would be using thicker knives instead of the super thin ones.

Also I have never gone back to my tool bag because I needed a thinner knife. On the other hand I have gone back to the tool bag to get a stronger knife.

I am actually the opposite. I have on more than a few occasions been required to grab a thinner knife to finish my cutting job.

TonyG,
Just out of curiosity. What were you cutting with a thin knife that required a thicker one to finish the job?
