Show me your Trail Masters!

I have one of the black ones brand new in the box from 2003, what do they typically sell for these days?

I was just looking at the GK+, that extra finger guard really appeals to me. Also looking at the Recon Scout. I was really unsure if I'd like the Krayex handle as everything I have is G10 or Micarta. Now if it holds up for a good amount of years like the G10 or Micarta then I'll be super pleased! Thanks for the pic, what did you use for the patina? Vinegar?

I used mustard. I did like the plain silver blade but where I live things corrode like crazy. That's my only complaint is that 01 picks up rust way faster than most any of my other carbon steels.

That is an exquisite, well-designed custom sheath, too. What a great companion to your Trail Master! If I may ask, what is the purpose of the elastic band? Does it force open the retention strap so as to prevent the strap from interfering with the draw?

Yes sir, it forces the straps out of the way of the cutting edge of the blade. It's a great design.

Kind of makes me want a Recon Scout. The black coated TMs just have such a different look. I wish CS would do the DLC on the TM and Recon Scout. They already do it on so many other fixed blades (and that includes cheaper offerings like the Leatherneck series) now that the old teflon coating seems downright chintcy. The difference between the two coatings on my Recon 1s is night and day. That really is a sweet TM, always nice to see picks of the "older" TMs!

Thanks fellas. Love my trailmaster. I have beat the hell out of this knife, the carbon V steel actually has excellent edge retention and the coating hasnt worn in the slightest. Im not sure what it is, seems like a DLC coating or something similar.

Stainless VG-1 SMIII Yes, that knife was the only tool used to cut that dead tree down. Took appx 15 minutes.

This one was rehandled by Bark River with leather washers.

I didn't know they rehandled. I want to get my SM3 Trail Master rehandled.
