Show me your WELL USED, trusted woods combo!

OLD big badass woods blade:

I don't use it a whole heck of a lot, but I do occasionally. It still chops fine! This was probably somebody's big knife in their combo way back when. No idea what their small knife was.

That's sick.

Speaking of trips, I have to schedule more than two day weekend excursions. I only have so many days for vacation. :/

It's a Kizlyar Supreme Savage in satin D2 tool steel. It's very nice, but I haven't got to use it much yet.

Just a short update on the Savage...

This thing carries very well! It has an adjustable mounting plate for the belt loop, so I set it up for strong side carry, pretty high up. It just disappears.

It is a wicked slicer! The blade shape lends itself very well to slicing and slashing, while the tip is still pointy enough to poke it into things. I have cut about a mile of cardboard at work with it so far and the edge still shaves. It had one of the sharpest edges I've ever felt out of the box and it has retained it very well. I am very happy with it so far.

This weekend will tell if it is any good for camping. I'm heading out to the lake on Friday and it's coming with me. My basic 9 will be along for the ride. Stay tuned for pics when I get back. Hopefully my photos will turn out a little better!

I got a chance to work with the Savage a little more today..... When it comes time to decide if a knife will make a good "bushcraft" or woods knife, I sometimes go have a cookout and "accidentally on purpose" forget to bring my BBQ fork.... That way I get to make one! It did a fine job at this task.

The Savage was fine for chopping and it was great for fine work. The thin, sharp edge and blade shape helped it greatly. It was the large knife in my combo today. My CS Recon 1 mini folder took up the small slot (I used it too) Here's the fork I made with the Savage:

The sharp little biotch managed to bite me too.... Took a little chunk outta my knuckle somewhere during the process. Bled like crazy, but no real damage:

This thing is a great woods blade. I'd feel comfortable with it as the small or (believe it or not) the large knife in my woods combo for most trips. It is very capable, tough as hell, and cuts like the dickens.

Here's a couple pics post usage. The satin finish wasn't fazed at all:

Excellent work on that fork, brother! Damn well done.
