my first show was in March of this year,
I'm heading to SICAC Paris next week.
these are 8 of the 9 knives I'm taking that are just completed.

I've worked day and night for a couple of weeks and I can't think too straight,
1)help me sort out what I need for a show,
2)and how do I make my table more inviting?
3)lastly I hear some guys ship their knives separately ahead of time, that's about $225 for FEDEX, I can take with me in checked luggage for about $50 prepaid, is there any reason I should ship ahead at the extra cost?

thx guys

also, boxes on the table or no boxes?

The boxes are a nice gifty touch, but I agree no boxes is more inviting.

Iron the table cloth
How about some colour? Make that tablecloth a bright slutty red.

"Certificates" with each knife - they spell out all the materials and features, with prices - they also act as place holders to show you if a knife is missing from the table.

A holder with business cards with your website on them.

Lost luggage - why would you trust the airlines ?

If you sell 10x that's only (225-50)/10 = $ 17.50 each for FedEx

Don't risk an empty table for that price.

Plus consider borders and customs.

If I travel from Canada to USA with 10x knives and business cards to attend a show - they stop me and prevent entry because I am doing business in the USA, potentially taking money outside the country.

Entry only allowed if I were to destroy the knives and stamp or etch them as "samples not for sale" or have some sort of permits $$$

I'm not up on the rules in France, but if you get the wrong agent, anything is possible.
Fedex avoids all that.

I also did my first show earlier this year and am doing my second next weekend. In the photo the knives do look good on the table with no boxes but you do want to elevate them a bit so putting them on boxes is a good idea. Give your self options! Allow yourself to make last minute decisions to blend in or stand out at the the show. Alot of what you do might depend on your neighbors tables TBH. Business cards on the corner of the table is a good idea, you may also want to have a larger size "flyer" type of thing in the corner, flat to your table. I noticed a lot of more saavy people will want to just snap a quick pic of your information rather than deal with business cards.
If you want to sell your stuff be very clear on the materials and prices. Having the specs and price detailed underneath each knife is my plan for my second show. I did not do this for my first show and I found that people didnt really want to ask. I also noticed that when i was walking around visiting other tables and no one was at my table, many more people would be apt to stop and look at my stuff....when i was sitting behind the table, alot less action. I am still not sure what to make of that but Its something to consider. Do you have someone to watch your table? What do you plan to be doing the whole time?

yes I will make some cards with info. for each knife
My g/f lives in France and is a native speaker of course, she will be with me most of the time both days.
I plan to hang out at the table and visit other tables as well

I wish that I had seen this before. I never had any problems getting into Belgium with my knives. As a matter of fact, they never even asked to look at my luggage. That may have been because my flight arrived at the same time as the one from Kinshasha and it was pretty easy to tell who had come from Atlanta or New York on Delta and who had not.;) For future reference, I used to have the Delta guys in Tampa And in Brussels hand carry my luggage. The guys in the US treated it like they would with a declared firearm as far as hand carrying it to the big TSA x-ray machine and tagging it. The Delta security guys in Brussels actually hand carried it to the plane.

Good luck Harbeer! Those really look great. Pam likes the oak best, manzanita second. She might be biased though. ... :)

Can't emphasize enough to have supplies for cleaning your knives. They will get dirty. Many of our shows are outside so we deal with that more than most but still inside they'll get dirty. Here's a little 15 second clip to show ya. Working on the bolsters there with a tarnish remover cloth.

Good luck and gorgeous knives.
