Show off your acid etch designs

Hi guys, I recently got a cqc7a with a beat up black finish that I've decided to customize a bit. I've stripped the black and now plan to polish it to a mirrored finish, map out a design with nail polish, and then dunk it in some pcb. I'm curious to see if any of you have done anything similar; and if so would you be willing to show off your designs? I think I have one in mind, but I'd love to see some extra inspiration. I plan to dye the scales a crimson/burgundy color when I'm done.

Thanks

Maybe just some idea brainstorming? Anything and everything is up for consideration. The top top two I'm leaning on right now are a charging elephant surrounded by lightning and George Washington crossing the Delaware. :joyous:

All of the manix were mine and I was just screwing around.
Here are a few that I found easily.

What is pcb?
Forgive the ignorance of a novice... W.C. Fields
I don't know a whole lot about it, but PCB is an etching solution they sell at radio shack that I think is used to wash circuit boards with. It has ferric chloride in it, which is an acid that works pretty well for acid washing steel.

Thanks for the pics Matt. I appreciate the input, those look pretty sweet.

I'm gonna try to make a design on my computer, print it out, go over it with a pencil, put some invisible tape over that and pick up the pencil marks, put the tape on my knife, cut out the design with an xacto knife, paint over the tape, and then peel the tape off and put the painted blade in the acid. I've got a persistence blade in acid right now just to see how well the process is gonna work.

Right now for the design I'm thinking Washington crossing the Delaware on the cutting side, and an enlarged emerson logo like the one I polished off my blade on the other side.

That is a great idea. The idea you can come up with are endless. I have not had time myself to try, but I would love to see something like that.
go for it. And dont be afraid to leave it in for a while. Just clean the heck out of the blade with alcohol and dont touch it with your fingers after. Wear rubber gloves or touch it with a rag. The oils will destroy the process.
Matt

I appreciate the advice, I just pulled out the persistence blade, I think this link should work for pics

.
It's not exactly what I was going for, but it's not awful for my first try either. I just free handed the nail polish to see how the stuff I got would hold up to the pcb. I need to be a lot more conservative with the nail polish if I end up free handing again in the future. I'll probably end up redunking it later on. I'm gonna do the emerson as soon as I have time to polish the blade and set the designs up, I'll post more pics then.

It's Printed Circuit Board etchant. PCB stands for printed circuit board. You are using an etchant (ferric chloride) for pcbs.

Nevermind, I saw a post on the other forum that said Mr. Emerson would prefer for people to not recreate his logo. I'll have to think of something else.

"Mr. Emerson would like to request that any reproduction of EKI logos or altered EKI logos on products be stopped. If you had permission in the past he is sorry, but he must rescind that permission.
The logos include the EKI, Specwar, Halfmoon, Bowie, Viper, Skull, and any other logo you will find on the EKI products."

Looks good! Doing something similar to a techno, but I'm going to stonewash the blade after etching.

How long did you end up leaving it in?

I left the persistence in for about 35 minutes without diluting the etchant. I plan on doing the emerson tomorrow, time allowing. Goodluck on the techno, those are awesome. :D

Didn't get around to it this past weekend, I'll knock it out this week for sure. Changed my mind again, think I'll go with a big old large sailing ship on the cutting side with a come and take it flag with cannon on the opposite side.
