show off your nessmuks

Top to Bottom:

* Fiddleback "Andy Roy" Nessie (O1 blade with ironwood handle scales)

* Busse Nessmuk LE (INFI blade with black & green G10 handle scales)

* Ban Tang regrind of a Busse Badger Attack LE (INFI blade with orange G10 handle scales)

* Busse BATAC LE (just so you can see what the one above looked like before the regrind)

Here's my favorite Nessmuk made by Dan Pierson. Stabilized burl, O1 steel and a thin blade just as G.W. Sears would have liked. It's nestled between one I'm working on(top). Bottom knife is a Spyderco Lum folder that came in the mail today by accident, and I have to return. Anyway it kinda looks like a modified Nessie to me. Took a pic for prosperity.

My Pierson Nessmuk has to be my favorite knife. It's lines are so nice and the fit and finish is awesome. Nessmuk is a great design for running in the woods. Nice thread.

found a Tree brand, model 30, moose knife today, which will go with my nessie (when it gets here) and hatchet for my Nessmuk trio. hard to find moose knives these days, except case, yet the case blades are like their muskrat blades, and I kinda prefer a wider "pen" type blade style to go along with the clip blade in the moose configuration

here is my new (used) nessie companion found today at a local gunshow, a Boker moose pattern which is stamped made in USA

Here's one I finished in the fall. 100 year old sawmill blade steel, local black Walnut handle, copper pins , wearing Beaver tail pants ;-).

looks great, did you have to redo the heat treat ? or just sharpen the blade

I kept it cool when cutting and grinding and didn't redo the heat treat. Took a great edge and holds it very well. Really fun steel to work with. Makes great Ulus too.

amen to that, what type saw blade? crosscut? about how thick would it be?

Hi Deltablade. The saw blade is a 36 inch diam mill blade 3/32nd inch thick. Some guys say it L6 others say another alloy carbon steel, whatever it is it takes a great edge that hangs in through hard use and is easyish to sharpen. Both the nessie and the ula are made from the same steel, also the small hunting hatchet with the leather handle scales and the blades of the gunstock war clubs in my photo stream. Thanks for your kind comments.

Robin

Man, one of these days...I'm gonna get a Nessmuk, probably start with a Condor.

the one of mine on top is a 5" skinner by Russell, cost about 14.00, and was easy to reshape with dremel and belt sander

Nice thread indeed!

Was wondering in what ways you prefer this pattern over other traditional patterns such as the bowie/ka-bar or the Puukko/Mora?

Second question... Do you all consider the Buck 103 Skinner to be a variant of the Nessmuk?

Nice Buck, that's the first time I've seen it but I know very little about fixed blades in general.

Before I found the BHK I was considering a Canadian belt knife, has a bit of the Nessmuk shape too.

hey i was wondering hows the bhk nessmuk i,m thinking of getting one for skinning

It works really well. Very comfortable, keeps a good edge. The size is perfect, good control for me at least. Never tried it on anything other than a deer though. They have three different sizes to chooses from this one is the largest.
