Keen Kutter

Jon, that Keen Kutter Barlow is awesome. What is the closed length on that knife?

What is the closed length on that knife?

Thanks. Its an amazing relic circa 1904-1920. It is 3 5/16" closed and weighs just 64 grams. By contrast a 2 blade bone handled Charlow is 3 7/16" and weighs 80 grams, or 25% heavier. The Charlow is thicker, wider and longer, and has a wider and longer blade. The over all length of the Charlow is 1/4" more reach.

Nice comparison pic's Jon, that really puts it into perspective. I have two Charlows and two 1950's Keen Kutter barlows. Thanks for the photo!

Regards, Mark

Actually Jon, I think my barlows are pre-1940 because the still have "E.C. Simmons" stamped on the tangs. Wikipedia says that Shapleigh Hardware Company bought them in 1940 and put there name where E.C. Simmons was. I don't know how accurate that is though. I have three more Keen Kutters coming that I just purchased (one barlow). I need to do some more research.
Regards, Mark.
