Show Us Leather Bags...

My father-in-law just brought home a cheap little leather pouch kit and a tangle of that plastic boondoggle (what a stupid name) junk. I tossed the boondoggle and broke out the trusty dental floss to sew up the pouch using six strands for each stitch.

I think it came out alright and the leather isn't that bad for a crappy little one-dollar kit. I tossed a few needles in it and a couple more yards of floss and it's now my mini sewing kit for my belt pouch.

thanks! It's very handy, and the knife is pretty decent. Both handmade, have no idea when or by whom, they came with a flintlock I bought from a friend who was getting out of the reenactment scene. It's been great for bowhunting.

Thats some really great stuff, Dannyboy! Is that canteen a solid shape, or just full in the picture?

Dannyboy, I love your work.

I've hacked up a few bovines :)

This is one of my first, I still use it for hunting with the .54

An upgrade to the one above, except I still use the one above.

This one I use every day for junk I like to have with me to and from work.

I use this one when wearing the kilt.

This one is a bit over the top, I made it for my wife to carry around chopper shows to kind of advertise my various leather skills, at the moment it stores all the stock knife sheaths I've replace with home made ones.

A Portmanteau/coach bag type that holds my long knives at the moment.

A box/pouch I made for a guy.

Sorry, I've been doing this for a long time, just this last one and I'll stop. This is another old pouch that I made to hold my fire kit back in the 80s, I still use it for that purpose.

Agreed. It is amazing how much talent is out there. No idle hands in this thread. :)

Hushnel, what type of stitch is on the perimeter of that highly tooled bag?

It's the double loop stitch, its kangaroo lace for strength and durability.

Thanks Dannyboy, I'm sorry to hear about your bags, I have a very low tolerance for thieves.

That saddle bag briefcase above was stolen out of my car at rehearsal one night. They broke the window to get it. It's the only thing they took, thank God. About 4 weeks later I get a call at work, she didn't speak English too well, she asked me if I lost a back pack. I told her no she insisted that it was mine and I asked if it was leather and more like a briefcase, she said it was, it had my business cards in it and she called the number.

She's the secretary for a company the sweeps the shoulder of the interstate highways and said they found it on I-95. It was 40 miles north so a co-worker picked it up for me. At first I was pretty happy and everything but my phone and MP3 player was till there, after a little while I realized the truth that the thieves didn't want the bag and I wrote it off to bad taste then I thought about it sitting on the side of a major thorough fair in south Florida for 4 weeks and nobody driving by wanted it :) Now it has history and is very dear to me.

I use my saddleback small satchel. I mainly use it as my EDC bag when I go around. I can fill it up and at that point it is just on the border of being too heavy. Perfect small bag for me. I usually carry a knife, some food, journal etc. I dont use it for hiking as I find it a tad small for a day trip. Could be done, but I prefer my maxpedition fatboy for that.
