Ive been thinking about River-8s cane, it looks solid, is it walnut and maple? My wood working has fallen on a back burner, for the last 4 months I havent been able to find a drive belt for my old band saw. I think I located one last week, it should be arriving shortly.
John, PM me, I think I still have an outline in MS word, I may be able to convert this to a PDF file, that explains the material and process for making rope bags, I was asked to do a seminar at the rendezvous a few years back. I was surprised when 15 people showed up. I was making pine needle baskets and I guess the needles were too short, it was kind of tedious, I looked around and saw a package of sisal rope and my mind said what the hell and I started my first rope basket, I use it to keep my sewing kit together.
These projects all look great, one of the things I really love about the Rendezvous is the amazing level of skill so many people have, it is always very humbling for me.
Phillip is one of the best, he must have seen some potential in my attempts and asked me to sit with him for a while, he picked apart my work told me my weaknesses and strengths and gave me some techniques to work on. This is a bible cover he carved.
These pictures dont do him justice, you should see the amazing carvings he does in bone and horn.
This one has bone applied to the carved horn. He does all his own silver work too.
I know Phillip is not a forum member but his amazing skill has been an inspiration to me, pushing me to do better and reach further than I would have on my own. He is just one, there are dozens of craftsmen and women at these events that blow me away.
