Show us the tools you actually carry backpacking or camping, to alleviate delusions.

Yep, carry what you will if it works.

Kershaw Leek and Kabar Dozier - EDC, food and urban uses, extra knives that get dumped in the bag
Esee4 - Woods knife, small woods processing, food, main knife
Woodings Verona hatchet - medium woods processing, hammer (tentpoles, etc)
Never been on a trip that needed more

I love this picture. I can see not needing more than this most of the time. I tell people that, if they are prepared, all they really need is a gents knife, a light/medium EDC folder and a good fixed blade. These three will cover most needed cutting chores. Add a saw plus an axe to the collection, and your set for just about anything. Of course, there is more to life than just needs. Wants play a bigger role in life than most realize.

BTW, what is the metal thingy attached to the Kershaw?

Over the years, most of my camping and time in the field has been while I was in uniform. Carried a CRKT Prowler or M16-02 mostly. Nowdays, I do enjoy winter camping, digging snow caves and such. Not much need for a knife under those conditions but, I will still carry some sort of knife. Normally, a Leatherman wave and a small folder. Next time I might dump the folder and try a small fixed blade.:)

My outings these days are limited to say trips with my daughter. I carry a small folding saw, a leatherman and an Enzo Trapper. At this point it's all about getting my daughter into the outdoors. First camping trip with her in a month. I'll add a BSA hatchet to the mix.

When I did Philmont many moons ago, all I carried was a SAK. Lol

Usually something like this:
Leatherman wave in place of the saw

If driving a car and in our own forests

In my 35 years of carrying knives I haven't broken any in outdoor use (I have damaged a few tips and edges, but nothing major)

Nice 260 STIHL. We use a 660, 360, 021, and an 020T. Nice little saws. They do work. I like the way they dog better than Huskys.
