Because we here at HI have had the pleasure of acquiring blades from the esteemed Royal Kami Bura, and as a way to send our respect for his work and our good thoughts for his health, I thought we could show some pics of our favorite pieces made by Bura.

I know there are a few I'd like to show, but I'm going to start with pics of Munk's Chiruwa AK. It was a gift from another forumite, is a beauty, and great patina that belies its use. Munk spoke of it yesterday, very lovingly professing the miles he has trekked with it strapped to his side. The frog is by Pappy, very special too, and is also VERY well done. A beautiful rig to be sure.

Can't wait to see yours too.

Raghorn gave it to me, and it's going to one of my sons someday. Thanks for the friendship.
The Frog, Pappy insisted upon sending me. I've got the wooden cross on my computer, he made out of two very small peices of wood he had laying around. Crazy Marine thought of giving me things... I miss Pappy. He wouldn't like some of the small divisions in the forum today, for he was a simple straightforward man who spoke what he felt directly. You knew where you stood with Jerry Peasley.

I tied the frog on the sheath with a shoe tie. Yes, I know, loops and all, where are the bells, munk? Well, I'd intended to make the thing semi permanent when I had it adjusted 'just right'. This frog was to raise the blade off the lower thigh, and it did. He took the leather from a woman's shoe, I believe. Some khuks will fall differently as they're carried in various manners, and it's hard to make rules about that because the blades and sheaths can be different even within the same model. This frog works great. The AK has seen a lot of prarrie and mountains, felled its tree, and done some chopping.

Those loops that shouldn't be there have never snagged, can you believe it? They will one day, and I'll cut them off probably.

Bura's blades have the special form. He is a master of that. They never look like they sprang from too much metal and were barely contained into the form of a knife; they look as if first imagined in the mind as what a knife should be.

edit note on my pictures: the only camera we have that talks to a computer is our digital cassette recorder. It takes stills with much less memory. I hope to get a 200 dig camera soon. Then I'll have no more excuses.

Not long ago it was stated that the FF's would be increasing to 28-30 oz from 24 oz. This was because HI had trouble getting turnout at 17" and 24 oz. They had to throw away a bunch of tries and were loosing money. Just prior to that announcement I put in an order for an 18" FF. Bura made me a beautiful 18" 24oz FF. I marvel at it. He made it an inch longer and kept the same weight even though it was hard to do already. Its a thing of beauty. I've made changes to it since this pic. I'll take a new pic tonight if I can.

Great idea for a thread. The man can truly make some magnificent blades. Attached are pics of my 20" 28 oz. Chitlangi by Bura and some pics of one of my Bura Pen Knives, a villager at 12" and 13 oz. I love these blades and have used both, although the Pen Knife has seen lots more use because of its handy size. I currently have a nice lemon etch on the Pen that is not shown in these pics. I also have another Pen Knife that I have'nt taken pics of yet, maybe now would be a good time.

Nice Chit.

Ha! Thanks man, but its mostly the camera, the beautiful blades and a little luck that make the pics turn out.

I think a lot of my HI stuff is by Bura. Dunno why. It just happened to turn out that way. He makes some nice stuff but the other kamis are good too. I liked Kesar's blades as well.

Bruise, I think it means your karma is strictly top flight, high class, top shelf, Palace pillow.

If you will excuse the Sgt Khadka for a moment, here is my Chiruwa AK and a villager Ganga Ram, both by the master Bura. No coincidence, they are my favorites. Bura is the best IMHO:)

You know this may be one of the toughest questions anyone has ever asked me. This may take awhile. I love them all so much, to pick just one is really tough.

Get well soon Kami Bura,

Billy

And the white line and black line technique, go-bos and bounce fill.
Somebody else around here has done some studying in photo.

I've got a 17.5", 23.5oz BGRS that was made by Bura. It's a wood devouring kukri monster. Very stout blade, great heat treat.

Are you sure that's a Chiruwa AK? It looks like a regular AK to me. Maybe the photo is too small.

Eric.

He's got black grip tape over the handle IIRC.

Ahhhhhh....That explains it. :)

I blew up the photo and can see the tape now.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have detailed the fact that the handles were wrapped with tape. I do that to all my bone handles. I find the wood to be grippy enough.

He makes some really good stuff as well. I'd say he'd be my favorite at this time. :)
