I just scored a #44 in stag. I really like the clip point blade on the #44. Now, if the #76 comes along....

Both of those items kept me from liking them.the [bullet] shield and also because of the squared off handle.
I want the cocobolo covered 44 with rat tail bolster, but not as much as I don’t want the bullet shield.Personally, I think some of the reasons people tended to not like the 44 so much is possibly because of the brass bolsters, the shield and also because of the squared off handle. None of those things bother me personally though. If the square corner hurts your palm, you can use a stone to round off the edges a little. I was disappointed that the stag ones didn't have the stamped end cap and rat tail bolster but the two I picked up have excellent stag.
I have to agree with black mamba they are outstanding knives. I have several myself.
The CS gunstock is almost identical to the S&M knife. In design and dimensions. Except for the pen blade (the S&M has a clip point pen blade). I attached pictures for a comparison. The Canal Street Cutlery version is possibly my favorite. A littler bigger than I like, but I regret not getting one. The GEC #44 in Cocobolo is tempting.
I can understand why you like it. It's a great looking gunstock knife - don't think I would ever get tired of looking at it. The stag is magnificent and the blade is classic. Thanks much for sharing. Here is my Schatt & Morgan Gunstock. Everyone is probably sick of seeing it. I know very little about it to be honest. I picked it up here at Bladeforums on the secondary market. I know it is a S&M, it is a File & Wire model, I know it is real stag and I know the blade steel is a stainless steel. The blade steel acts a lot like a ATS-34 blade that I have on a Benchmade knife of mine. That is a good thing because I like ATS-34 steel.
The blade originally had "EDC" in script on the blade which I removed. I am not fond of billboard markings on my blade.
I am VERY fond of this knofe and I am not sure why, perhaps it is the blade and the stag handle. The squared off ends on the handle do not bother me as much as I expected it would when cutting cardboard boxes down. I bought this on a whim and now it has become my primary EDC. It even pushed a GEC model 78 out of my pocket and I didn't think that was possible.
The gunstock pattern is not as popular as other single and two blade patterns and I am not sure why.
Oh well, I am just enjoying this knife.
One heck of a Zebra Wood Gunstock knife.
Next on my list. Great little knife and yours has beautiful jigging and coloration in the scales.
