Malla surely is one of my favorite Khuk.
Why? I don't really know the answer.
Anyhow, here is the pict of my Malla.

19" OAL Malla sheated in the scabbard.

It was a special order made by Bura back some time in 1999 (IIRC).
It is one of the earlier unit.
I can't remember who got the prototype with a non habaki bolster, any help?

It looks sleek.
It is sleeker than Gelbu Special IMO.
Considered as light and fast in hand (i.e. mine was made slightly thinner as per my request).
Malla is not really a chopper but more a cutter and a bit more towards a fighter.

Any review on Malla?
BTW, kindly show us yours and share your opinion about your Malla :)

Nepal Ho

Very attractive set and must admit that it is the nicest looking one I've seen. Glad you shared with us. How isit in Kuala Lumpur these days?

Thanks for sharing with us Mohd! I don't have a Malla to share but I enjoyed seeing yours.

Thanks for sharing the great photos mohd and the follow up story link Steve. What a honorable thing for Howard to do giving it to one of our brave Marines.
Wonder if it's possible to have one made yet?

That is a nice package. Even the C&K have cho's! Looks similar to the profile of Sirupati to me. Sure has aged nicely too:thumbup:
Some nice history.

Many thanks pals for all the replies :)

.. How isit in Kuala Lumpur these days? ..
KL just recovered from the the “very unhealthy level” of air quality due to the acrid smoke billowing from Sumatra agricultural fires. Raining season just ended and we have nice weather now Bookie.

Hi Phil, quite sometimes not hear from you. I just done moving and I just got internet access last few days ago. Will visit your Fb soon.

.. Howard Wallace got the first Malla, as described in this thread (with related history) ..
Yes, Howard our old pal is the lucky winner! Thanks Steve for the info and the link. Howard is sure a generous person AFAIK him in the forums

Guess you've to check with Auntie Yangdu LaRue :)

That is a beautiful set...love the unique chos
Yeah .. just love it ndog and cul!

.. It looks very fast. What's it's weight at 19" ? ..
Oops .. can't remember the figure .. mine is especially a thinner one (the spine is only 5/16" thick while the regular one is having a 7/16" thick spine) .. comparatively mine just weigh about the weight of a 15" regular HI Sirupati.

Still waiting to see picts of other Mallas out there ;)

My review: looks like a stellar blade to me. Nothing short of a gem. The chos are awesome, and I've never seen a karda with a bolster or cho. Unfortunately, I can't do a proper review without taking a long plane ride and getting your pretty blade a little scuffed up :b

I'd seen a pic of the Malla before, but the history is new to me, and very cool to hear. This blade is definitely on my want list.

Thanks for the pics and post man!

Hi Single, you're most welcome to come to KL for the proper review on my Malla :D
And at the same time you might want to review my other local blades such as this parang as well ;)

I wish I had a Malla to show you, but I just recently started acquiring khukuris and haven't picked one up yet. That parang is really nice! Is it locally produced? How does the quality compare to HI stuff? I would love to try one of those out.

.. the more HIKV strength grows! ..
Khukoo and Chain, maybe it's time for you to just grab the regular Malla or the DOTD one from HI :D

Khukoo, that particular parang is locally made by my old buddy Katz Tan, you can connect to Katz Tan's Fb to see his handmade knves.
A Khuk is a Khuk and a Parang is a Parang and IMVHO both works great in their own way!
Anyhow you can always read KJ's review on Parang which also touch a bit on Khuk in THIS THREAD okay.

Mohd that is a great parang from O'katz. I really like the hammered finish he does. Is that a new one for you?

.. There was a Malla on a DOTD? ..
Chain, you just closely monitor the DOTD, some rusty spot on the blade or some very tiny hairline crack on the handle or whatever tiniest flaw on the rig may end up a newly arrived Malla in the DOTD thread ;)
If such a thing did happen during our late Uncle Bill's time then it also can happen now pal!
Anyhow if you think it's not really worth your time waiting with uncertainty for the DOTD then why not you set a plan to get the regular one

Looks like there was one back in 11/2015 - that was before I started hanging out here but I'll be keeping a lookout now.

Thx mohd!

Here's another Malla, by Lachhu Kami, whom I believe apprenticed with Bura years ago. It's 20" OAL and 32.7oz.

I like the blade shape on these knives. It's a big knife, but pointier than most.

I got this one from another forumite, so I don't know when it was originally sold by Yangdu, but since it has the "U.B." marking it must be 2005 or later.

The cho is not as fancy as mohd's Malla, and the Sword of Shiva is different, but it's a very nice knife.
