Show us your ugliest knife...

Rob wins this one with his picture of that Dale Reif knife IMO. Though I like the OP's knife it actually looks pretty cool, to me anyways.

I agree, I actually laughed out loud when I saw the picture.

(The Dale Reif knife, not the OP's knife. I also agree that the OP's knife looks cool)

Plus that wanna be emerson wave he posted geez..... was that the knife someone wanted to sell?

Rob, reread the thread title and stop being a jackass.

I thought I'd start a thread that shows off some of the less than beautiful pieces we own. Show us your ugly ducklings. :D

Here's mine... It may not be perdy, but I like it!

realy like this knife lol

Opinions, opinions, ignorance has just as much right to them as the rest of us.

For those who feel there's something wrong with the Dale Reif knife, I have two words for you: Laci Szabo.
But then, anyone who doesn't understand Ed Fowler's work isn't going to understand Szaboinc.com either.

If we continue to see casual vulgarity, however, I will close the thread.

What is "casual vulgarity"? I will continue to see the Dale Reif knife as ugly no matter if I understand it's purpose or not. It's a subjective opinion. Telling me it serves a purpose does not change my opinion. I will always think dragsters are ugly; not because you use them to go fast in a straight line, but because I think they're ugly. The two qualities are unrelated.

Maybe I misinterpreted the thread. Does the OP mean ugly as in dirty, rusted, etc.? Others have posted knives that don't fit into that category so I assumed otherwise.

I love my captain! I think it is a work of art! And fits the hand wonderfully

Aesthetics aside, this one warms my heart as a Canadian, as it is made from an old ice skate blade. Bonus points for recycling too, but still a bizarre failure...

I have two knives. I'll pick the less 'ugly' of the two.

The Coye Ridgeback fixed blade.

Both whittle hair.

I don't have ugly knife. Ugly knife is one that fails me. If knife fails me, it gets disregarded. So far none of my knives have failed me so I cannot consider them ugly.

"Casual Vulgarity" = cuss words that add no value, overly graphic body part descriptions, Lord's name in vain. All to be seen above Esav's post. All may (or may not) have a place in literature...but this ain't literature...this is the internet!!!

On topic. I was hoping to see once beautiful knives made ugly by years in a toolbox, 12 months in the sandbox, or 40 years on the trail. Some of those knives are pretty ugly alright but there is something about "ugly by design"...just a different concept I guess. A lot of rescue tools are pretty ugly but they're all about function.

Ed Fowler's work is easy to understand. Forged 52100 hunting knives, occasional Bowie or Camp sized knife. He has done better than the two examples that are pictured. I also understand Ed's self-promotional abilities (he and the late Phill Hartsfield), which exceed the mythic status accorded to 52100, a fairly, low-alloy simple ball bearing carbon steel.

Jackass.

Cross between an upswept skinner with a partially sharpened top edge, and a meat cleaver... the Szabo "Ogre". Weighs 1.5 lbs.

Wow. This is in no way a comment on this important military event... just the awful knife that Bob & Alan produced. These guys know better.

Another amateurish looking beast by Phill Hartsfield, the "Mini Zhahid". The "nuts" on handle screws with glue-filled gaps, and the uneven rivets in the sheath are rivaled only by the uneven chisel grind of the blade. Amazing this stuff still sells for what it does in the aftermarket. Phill was truly an amazing marketer.
