• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Show us your weekend's finds! I started early-

I almost passed on all three of these. The top one is an Imperial, and I already have an Imperial scout with the non-sheet handle covers, but the other has a pen instead of an awl, and lacks the BSA shield. I almost didn't get either Hammer Brand USA because one had a badly chipped blade and the other had weak walk and talk, but one had the awl and one had the pen, so- They cleaned up pretty nice.

These are from the same estate sale: hand-forged Bowie, Landers Frary &Clark, Queen solid-body Barlow, and a Japanese kitchen knife.

great grab bag there!, think you'll finish up whomever started that bowie?

I'm thinking a piece of crab-apple or hornbeam instead of all those leather washers. He's left me a rather odd system there, with the tang in a brass tube filled with lead. I need to put on a handle that won't twirl or slide.
He did some really nice work on the blade, which I hope will show clearer when I've cleaned it up.

Never heard of a tang covered in brass and filled with lead before, maybe to add mass to a stick tang/balance the weight out? I can see some Hornbeam looking nice on there, haven't seen enough Crab apple wood to judge that one. As for the blade, yeah it could do with a vinegar bath or two.

Or maybe for a nice round and rustproof spindle under those leather washers.

Thanks for reminding me of the vinegar bath. It might as well be soaking while it waits.

No worries, glad to help, make sure to do a WIP thread I'd really like to see the work done on it.

Nice finds. Can we see more pictures of the LF&C and the Queen? I love those aluminum Queen barlows

More on the LFC and Queen
Here with another LFC I bought last summer-first I knew they made pocketknives.

Thanks for the extra pictures of the Queen. Looks like a stout knife.
Yup. I had to have it, because I almost never see a Barlow that actually has the extra strong bolsters that were the whole point of the design.
