Show us your well used knife/knives!

So using your logic you should be happy that you broke your knife. Now you get to go out and stimulate the economy! Yay!

I personally could care less what people do with their expensive tools. Just don't complain when they fail while being used for something meat-headed.

wasnt complaining, all i did was state the obvious and yes it was meat headed but i also like to know the limits of my knives, and now that i do i probably wont baton with it again. that being said yes i am happy to get the knife fixed and yes im glad that its helping the economy but what other purpose does money serve except to be spent?

What knife were you using? I baton with my folders - here's my $25 RAT-1 :D

This was taken after fire was started - no real wear shown at all. It's the commercial dive model though!

it was the BM 111 folding dive knife, and in all honesty i wouldnt mind taking the rat1 down for my dive folder but a lot of the parts would have to be DLC coated

The blade on my GB axe chipped while I was using it to dig in rocky soil. I expected more from such a quality axe.

No word of a lie, my father told me that he was in Lee Valley one day when a man came in raising hell for exactly that reason. Someone had bought him a GB forest axe (I think...) which he then used to hack away at tree roots. He just annihilated that poor axe by smashing it into dirt and rocks and was whining very loudly about what a piece of junk it was.

As for well used knives, here are a couple of mine. Please excuse my non-existent photography skills. :o

Here's my well-used Cyclone. The blade has been ground down quite a bit...I've reprofiled it a bajillion times; it's currently sporting a convex edge. It's a fair bit shorter than it used to be from re-forming the tip of the blade. :o The Aluminum handles are pretty beat up from this that and the other thing: The big dents are from hammering in tent pegs.

Here's my Vic Pioneer...it's not quite so well used as my Cyclone, but it's had its share of abuse. I couldn't get all the scratches and junk in the blade to show up for some reason...The alox handle scales are still full of some manner of grout from when I used it to re-tile a bathroom a few months ago.

If there's one thing I love more than a good knife it's a good, well-used knife. :D

nicely done Dorito Monk on that cyclone

@ cziv - they do but its a teflon coating that from all teh reviews say doesnt last to long, so DLC is something id much prefer to that coating or duracoat

I heard that the new Cold Steel knives have that DLC coating on them. I had it on my Recon-1 triad version and it was a bear to get it off. Maybe a small or large American Lawman or the Recon-1 could be for you or spring for those Spydercos in H1 steel.

my fixed blade attached to my BC is the fixed spydie salt, and if CS is doing some DLC then ill probably jump on a tanto voyager coated

I edc a cyclone as well though mine lacks the character yours has. I do use the hell out of it and the handle near the clip is slowly eroding where my work keys beat on it. It's starting to look well-loved. It's hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it's been sanded.

Heres a 1970 62087 Case Serpentine Jack I bought at a local hardware store back in 1970---yes I am old:)

Oh wow. Look at the bone on that. If that isn't a true pocket-worn knife, I don't know what is.
I'm currently carrying around a little stag folder. Hopefully, a few years down the line, i'll start to develop that buttery yellow color only found from years of carry and use.

all my knives are used hard except for that izula (smallest knife) since i won it in the esee snow shoe contest (sentimental value).

Used my ESEE-6 for some heavy batoning today. thought i'd break it for sure since i never put this knife through hard use.

Still perfectly straight. and not a single bevel rolled or portion of the blade bent/chipped/cracked! what a workhorse!

question for you guys and gals.. i'm planning on buying more ESEE knives. (because they're awesome!) could you baton with a Junglas or the light machete? or are they really meant for just slashing branches in front of your path? i don't know the blade thickness on them. could anyone recommend a becker knife for batoning?
thanks.

regarding the bm 111:

The blade is a modified sheepsfoot. Want to know why? So you can pry at things without damaging the tip. If there was damage done to the folding mechanism then you could argue that he shouldnt have batoned with a folder. That is not the case. The steel was the issue and i believe a poor heat treat to be the culprit.

I just got these knives from my father. They belonged to his father.

That's some WEAR on that old Camillus!

I don't have any good cameras. Hell, I don't even have a decent one. The only one I have is my low quality camera on my outdated cell. This is a bead blasted 3.5" non-flipper.

Here you can see the bead blasted areas that are worn at the lines on the blade (the darker areas):

Here you can see some of the scratches that the blade received after helping my niece slice up some sand paper for some school project. It's hard to see on the pic, but the entire blade looks like the tip area. It's all scratched up:

One more just 'cause:

An old Schrade 51OT, I carried this knife for 15 years, I finally retired it 'cause the lock pivot was hole in the tang was elongated.

I still carry this mid 80s Bud Nealy O1 Aikuchi, it was one of 8 knives he brought to the first ECCKS when he started sellin' knives full time.
