Not much love I see, I'll have to drag one out and post later on. I don't particularly love mine either. . .

I have a USA ALICE Large out in the garage. Don't know why. I hate it. Uncomfortable as all get out. "The tick" as it burrowed into your back and wouldn't let go long after you dropped it.

I carried one in the Marines starting in 1980. Almost took one out on yesterdays excursion. Stuck with the maxpedition. I have a med and large. Mine seem undoable without the metal frames. I'll probably start taking them out during rainy wet conditions with dry bags. I'll get some pics out when I do

Exactly I hated it in the 80s and that hatred has continued to this day. As a fun note, my daughter was issued an alice pack in college Rotc. Those damn things are still digging into backs.

There are valid reasons the Army moved away from them.

I mounted my Alice pack on to a old aluminum frame, which worked very well to get it off your back
I then gifted it to a friend

like 90% of issued military kit, the ALICE system was fine for what it was, and bought from the lowest bidder as long as it met minimum standards. I loved this stuff when i first got in... then discovered how much better gear there is out there once you open your wallet. still scavange every alice clip i can though.

Hated them in 1985, still do. Too many better choices out there to drag around an alice pack.
But, if thats what you like, try some others.

I don't know what happened to my pictures, but I have a much loved med ALICE that Tactical Tailor modified, it has their shoulder straps and MOLLE on the top and sides, and all over the back inside the pack, as well as stress points reinforced and a storm kid with top kid pouches. I also added the Spec Ops HUMP bladder holder.

I've dragged that thing all over and abused the heck out of it over the years. It's one of my favorite packs.

I see, I like the ALICE pack because I don't know any better, is that right? Tried Gregory, Kelty, Osprey, and REI brands.

Still have the ALICE, got rid of the rest.

Not exactly what I was going for but, sure, that seems about right,
or you didnt have to hump one multiple times with 1/2-2/3 of your body weight on multi day exercises with 15 to 25 mile road marches thrown in just because you could.
Hump what you want, its your back, enjoy, or you are the exact size of the person they built it for.

Yup. Hump it with full load 10 miles to the range then qualify with your rifle after which you night fire then hump it back. Add a PRC-77 strapped to your front side, and it's absolutely heaven-like. Yeah, the ALICE pack sucked.

30 years ago this month I signed in to the 101st as a Rifle Platoon Leader. 2d Plt B/2-327th INF. NO SLACK!

RUCK UP!

I was issued my first Alice pack back in 87 ( yes I'm that old). To this day I still use a large Alice. For the money I like it. It's very robust and takes the abuse I dish out. What can't I carry in it. If it fits it well carry it. I know it's not the most high speed low drage pack on the market today but for what you spend I don't think you can get a more robust pack. I've used it to haul fire wood, deer , jerry cans ect. Not bad for a used $25 pack and frame.

Here's what an SF Medic had to say about the ALICE pack on another sire I frequent:

"Son....let me introduce you to my SF Army wife ....her name is ALICE....she is evil....she will ride you like a two dollar hooker.....she will kick your ass every day you wake up in the beginning. ..there is no honeymoon phase with this evil woman .....she will dig into you like no woman before and after.....she will make you bleed in places you never imagined ...you will go to her to eat all your Meals...she will sleep with you every night ....she will hold all your personal items and share them with you late at night ....she will gain weight like no woman you ever met because she's a big girl .......Alice will show you no mercy so before you make the commitment to her be warned ...if you pick her up, she's yours and she may damage you for life .. ......but If you try hard, Alice will make you strong .....only strong men can handle Alice because she designed in her evil nature to weeds out the weak .....
