Show Your Best Becker Edge - Win a BK-2 Campanion

after having fun removing steel from this 11 and adding a patina, I finished it with some worn diamond stones and a homemade strop loaded with black compound. It was further refined by my regular 2-belt barber strop loaded with black compound on the leather belt and white compound on the nylon belt. It shaves, curls fuzzies and grins back at me

I sharpened the BK10 this evening on my Tri-hone, with the help of a little 600 grit sandpaper and as leather scrap used as a strop.

Note the old bottle of Ka-Bar honing oil. A friend gave it to me from his late grandfather's shop.

After a stropping it was good to go. I tried my best to get a good one of the edge, but it's no slouch. :( I'll try again in the sunlight and edit one in if I can scrounge up a better one with my phone. Hopefully these pics give you an idea about it though.

I recently became obsessed with convex edges. So I picked up a series of belts for my 1 x 30 all the way up to 9 micron and a leather honing belt. I chose my BK-7 partly because I don't give it the time it deserves. I wanted to make it scary sharp. I did this last weekend on full sunlight and went slow so hopefully I wouldn't mess up.

Here is the edge before. Pretty much the factory edge. Lots of grind marks.

I removed the lanyard and put on some safety glasses and went to work. Notice the bucket of water to dip the blade in to keep it cool after pretty much every pass on the belt. Before the blade touched the belt it was dried by a micro fiber towel. Slow but safe.

After to first belt the edge is looking better.

I switched belts and got after it again.

Getting better.

After that I went to the leather belt with green compound on it. I am in love with this way of stropping.

Reflection in the edge.

Now let see what it can do.

Of course it easily shaves and whittles hair.

It goes through computer paper very easy.

Just for fun I hacked through a water bottle. I realize this isn't a good test of the edge but it was fun.

It was fun learning a new way to sharpen my blades and get used to the belt sander before I start grinding my own knives.

Good luck to everyone else who enters!

All of the tools, homemade strops and an assortment of stones. All free hand sharpening these days.

The BK16 was chosen for this project.

She'll push cut phonebook paper, cut circles in a fold and feather.
Feather sticks, no problem.

Even little ones were not a challenge

Push cut 3/8 rope with ease.

Can even be used as an axe if one is not handy, just add a club and you're in business.

Oh and it will shave too.

Fisked my BK5 on my HF 1x30 belt sander with 120 grit.
Mouse pad and sandpaper. 320, 400, 600. (Because that's what I had).
Brought to a mirror polish on a strop loaded with Mother's Mag Polish.
Those branches are English Walnut. The Magnum Camp slices through some thick stuff like butter!
Thanks for the cool contest Gunyon.

I ran a random number generator for eligible entry post numbers. Boom. There's your winner. Post #19. Congratulations, Jonny1280.

You can only call me Gunyon if you've shaved it into your chest hair.

PM or email me an address!

Congrats Johnny! There were some excellent posts here and imo yours was one of the best. I hope you enjoy your new cro-van and will post pics asap.

Congrats Jonny! That 5 looks like a beast.

I might have to take mine to the sander and give it a touch up.

Thanks guys!
I absolutely love this 5! It's a slicey, dicey machine!
I'll definitely post up pics of the new BK2.
I really enjoyed seeing all the entries in this one.

If I were gonna be here by the time you got it in the mail, I'd drive up to your house and mug you. :D

Congrats John.
