I recently became obsessed with convex edges. So I picked up a series of belts for my 1 x 30 all the way up to 9 micron and a leather honing belt. I chose my BK-7 partly because I don't give it the time it deserves. I wanted to make it scary sharp. I did this last weekend on full sunlight and went slow so hopefully I wouldn't mess up.
Here is the edge before. Pretty much the factory edge. Lots of grind marks.
I removed the lanyard and put on some safety glasses and went to work. Notice the bucket of water to dip the blade in to keep it cool after pretty much every pass on the belt. Before the blade touched the belt it was dried by a micro fiber towel. Slow but safe.
After to first belt the edge is looking better.
I switched belts and got after it again.
Getting better.
After that I went to the leather belt with green compound on it. I am in love with this way of stropping.
Look at it shine now!
Reflection in the edge.
Now let see what it can do.
Of course it easily shaves and whittles hair.
It goes through computer paper very easy.

Just for fun I hacked through a water bottle. I realize this isn't a good test of the edge but it was fun.

It was fun learning a new way to sharpen my blades and get used to the belt sander before I start grinding my own knives.
Good luck to everyone else who enters!
