Holy Smokes!:eek: Those are absurdly thick on a small knife!!!

That ain't now knife! More like a sharpened Railroad Spike :D

Do you folks who EDC fatties like that actually cut stuff with it :p

I am starting to warm up to fatties so I am a little jealous!

Fat knives are cool with me so long as the edge geometry is taken down. The BATACLE for example has a very nice blade geometry for being a fatty.

is there a rule?

id say for edc types, anthing over .220 is fat.

for the med to large, anything over .250 is fat.

maybe husky is a better word? thick? wide load?

Thanks for putting things in perspective. I'll have to dig my calipers out of the tool box and see what the thickness of my AD is when I get home. It seems fat to me but after seeing some of these other knives here I'm curios to see what it's thickness really is.

the ad's tend to be around .187-.200. the miliganza ones are a bit thicker, more like heavy duties.

my mili ad is .197, my hd is .198. pretty much identical, one ten thousandth of an inch isnt noticeable to my stone hands, anyway.

my mrsle is .225

fat gwse is .270

ba-e is .269

All this talk of fatness made me do a subjective test tonight.

I had cut green beans and rack of lamb for dinner.

I used three knives. A "slicer" that is .075 thin. My new custom AD at .17 and my .27 Fat Warden.

I felt that .075 was too thin in that it seemed to flex even cutting green beans. It was fine with meat.

The AD was good all around.

The Fat Warden was in a way better than both It is like the width helps split things and in fact it was the best for the meat. Now I wasn't carving meat just eating it from a plate. But all in all I was truly shocked hat how well FAT works.   It is notable that the Fat warden is very very sharp... the others just shave hair.

Tony,

Now try the same test with the 3 knives on stiffer food like Apples and Potatoes.

Then do another cutting comparison on cardboard, thin plastic packaging material, 2 litre bottles, and even stiffer material like hollow plastic tubes like caulking tubes.

You will notice that the stick stuff will easily wedge and not go anywhere. The ultra thin stuff will most likely flex too much. But the 1/8" stuff will go through pretty easily. Too thin and Too Fat are Too Specialized :D I prefer most of my small knives to be 1/8 and medium to larger stuff in 3/16.

Ban,

I don’t disagree with you. But I was really surprised how good the thick knife did work. I always looked at it as just a fun knife to have and that you couldn’t cut much of anything with it. All I’m really saying is that it worked much better than you might expect.

This morning I used that fatty on a cantaloupe. Other knives might have worked better but this work fine, the blade being just 3 inches was more of an issue that it being fat. Yes, a knife from .10 to .17 would be better but this work way better than I had expected.

Kind of like me on a bicycle these days... I'm fat but I'm not that bad.
