Are all the new production knives lacking small touches to the steel that the older ones came with?
No sharpening choil and less refined edges. Maybe just for custom drops? I have an older crow Jr Vs a new scalper.

Oh ya you can still get either. Various handles and blade finishes.
Crow Jr on the left and crow sclaper right. Scalper is slightly shorter and thinner in blade stock to the crow jr.
Theres the feather light also which is the smallest of the blade shape, or crow scout at the biggest.

Yes and no. Definitely less details on new production, but selection is more consistent. Old school had a lot of uneven grind lines and could trigger ocd hard. Still, older pieces often have quite a bit of personal touches than current line up.

You definitely get more detailed work the higher up semi custom pieces available at drops.

Also scalper is a different crow variant, I think CJ have coils in majority and scalpers don't. I have CJ you can see in damascus on that picture,.crow cub, and feather light and crow folder from that family, plus disaster crow...same family very very different knives.
 
Ya I figured there's just a wide range in offerings that come around. They do good work anyway!
