^ Hell yeah. That knife has seen some real use. Warms my heart.

I’m going on 6 years of love on my HDFK and 5 years on the Medium Chopper. They have both been exceptional in heavy outdoor use, in every possible way!

Thanks. They're ironwood from Tony R. I purchased the HDFK from him a while back after he contacted me by PM to ask if I was interested in buying the knife. Installed those scales and sent the originals with it in the package.

Yes they are! It helps with getting a fire going when the wood is wet.

I was a big fan of birch bark for fire starting when I still lived up north. (Fatwood and vaseline soaked cotton balls too.)

I use cotton balls soaked with wax, dryer lint, frayed jute twine as a spark catcher and use fatwood to keep the fire going.

Not really, the vaseline helps sustain the flame a little longer though.

Vaseline soaked cotton balls…normally I don’t need a fire starter as I’m camping with the truck so I just use a propane torch, I’d rather sit around it than F-around starting it, however I’ve used the cotton ball fire starters while road camping on the motorcycle and they were super useful!

Handful of cedar bark, vigorously rolled between both hands (think meatballs, beef patty....mmmm, cookies) into a large, fluffy, barky mass is my backwoods primary (if normal flora for your geography). Juniper bark in a pinch. Birch bark from downfall, pulled into little strips, then similarly rolled will work, too.
