I'm going to put a wave on an Endura that I just picked up. Not exactly sure just how I'll do it. Used the search function, but didn't get much help. I'm interested in seeing how other people put a wave on there blade. So, if you have a home made wave, please post a pic.

Okay, here are a couple I did. That should convice you not to try it :D

(Kidding. If I can do it, anyone can. Probably better...)

Here's mine, done by STR:

Try this first, it's almost free, works well, will take 10 seconds and if you don't like it, you can remove it. I use mine everyday at work and it never fails.

same here.. "Zip Tie Wave Mod".. took me over 15 seconds! couldn't find my scissors :)
This "wave" worked Very well.. Too well in fact.. and after 2 months it got annoying so I cut it off.
Ymmv..

15 seconds?!!! You're slow. Scissors? Didn't you have a knife?:D
I know what you mean about working too well, kinda annoying but that's the beauty of it, you can always cut it off or put it on.

Nice touch on the Ladybug. In another thread, I almost made a sarcastic comment about the new version not having a wave. :) Although with that tiny opener hole, it probably needs it more than any other model.

Both of those Natives look really cool with the modifications.

Thank you. I had seen pictures of a waved Ladybug on one of the forums and thought "That is just TOO cool! I gotta have one." So I found a used beater on the Bay, got it for about $10 shipped, and went to work. The hardest part was making the clip.

I recently bought yet another Native...

I wonder how long I can leave this one alone? :D

I always thought the handle part of the handle/blade finger choil on the Native could use a rounding out.

Somewhere I have some well-abused Ladybugs I picked up for cheap. Might be time to break out the power tools.

at the risk of sounding stupid, is the "wave" to open the knife on your pants when you pull it out of your pocket?

I just tried the Zip Tie mod and I was surprised at how welll it works. It is not as good as the real Wave but it can work in the right pants if you take it out in the right way.

The real Wave has it beat because it doesn't look ghetto, it doesn't hang off the blade, it is part of the blade. It is also more reliable under more conditions.

Zip tie is one of those neat idea that I am sure works better on some models that others.

Getting caught up on my reading of old forums and came across this zip tie trick, gave it a whirl on my ATR and I am still laughing at how well it works, although the pant pockets are taking a beating , gotta love the 10 second ghetto wave.

Now this got me to thinking and wondering if anyone has tried this idea, (for any of the spydie cobra hood models) remove the stock cobra hood and fabricate a new one ( I was thinking to start in brass) kind of shaped like the one on the cold steel ak 47 with a small notch in front to allow to extend a bit futher forward and flared out to catch on the pants, easy enough to attach just use the stock hole in blade to screw into.

Will this work? Should I break out the dremel tool and give it a go(not on the ATR but on some brass stock) or is it going to be an exercise in futility?

Just built prototype number one , model one test mule wave for the ATR out of a small piece of kydex , could not find any brass or aluminum the right thickness, heated kydex to follow contour of cobrahood, one small 3/32 hole, and a few minutes trimming to shape , badabing badaboom waved ATR, it works pretty well , at least as well or better than my CS AK 47. Sorry having probs posting pics. Total manufacture time using kydex about 10 minutes.

Looks like tomorrow time to find some brass or aluminum to make a more permanent version, will need to add a small channel on underside of wave device to follow back of blade and prevent twisting of the wave plate..

Hmmmm maybe Sal could make these little things out of titanium or stainless as an add on to the ATR or any of the other cobrahood spydies, not sure of patent infringements though.

Sal would have to get permission from Mr. Demko to do that and maybe Lynn Thompson also since I understand he'll be the owner of that patent if he isn't already. I think you could make a new hood by taking the old one off an replacing it with one that over hung out of the front to do what you are thinking on that ATR. A thin piece of titanium would do the trick. The problem is its tough to bend by hand and unless you have professional metal bending equipment thats the way you would have to do it.

Pity the ATR's now discontinued, that would've been a fairly good idea.

Well just finished up the second ATR wave, did not feel like waiting to find the brass so dug thru the tackle box and came up with an old small Gibbs Crocodile fishing lure which turns out to be chrome plated brass.

Bent to shape to follow contour of blade back, used the pre existing hole in the lure, dremmelled in a channel to go over blade, cut to length, then ground out in 1/4 moon shape on the end, it sticks out about 1/8 th inch toward the tip of the blade. It aint pretty with a few vise marks and all on it but for prototype #2.......

This actually pops the blade better than the CS AK 47s now, my home made version is wider with the moon cut out on the face so it catches much better. Might try a rebuilt version on the AK 47 as well to get similar performance.

I think I will get proper materials I think brass or aluminum just for ease of workabliliy, and make a full on permanent version.

Believe it or not I have spent more time trying to figure out how to post a picture than building the damned thing, still havent figured out the pictures.

Last post on this unless I figure out the pics.

The easiest way is to use an image hosting site such as Photobucket or Imageshack. You may have to resize your picture to get it down to the host's file size limit. Upload the image to the host, and you get a URL you can copy and paste into your post. It is actually easier than I make it sound.
