Show your natural whetstones!

Anyone have a Welsh Dragons Tongue, Llyn Melynllyn or Llyn Idwal Whetstones? Found them from doing some searching, they're pretty interesting and the slate has a lot of character to it from the pictures I've seen.

I read the article in the link you gave. It was good. Thank you.
Someone thought enough of it to make a nice box for it from walnut. So, someone liked the stone. DM

Charnleys are good stones fairly akin to a black or translucent Arkansas in terms of usage. I think the only other British stones I've got are a couple of Silkstones and a Llyn Idwal, no Llyn Melynllyn or Dragon's Tongue. I've got that TATHS book mentioned in the link. It's neat but could have used some more work on the photography.

Last night I used my x fine India on the Charnley Forest stone and smoothed & leveled it out some more. Then worked one of my used Feather double edge blades on it. Afterward I stropped it. This came out very nice. I would say your assessment ^ on it being close to a
translucent Arkansas is right on. I'll shave with this blade and let you know. The size of this stone is very nice to work a razor on it. Thank you, DM

Well, this shave was very good and close. Better than a new Feather blade or a new Trac II. Just very smooth and no nicks. So, the Charnely Forest stone works well on tuning up a dull razor blade. Thanks guys, DM

Awesome, thanks for the input! I was seeing a few listed around, I think I'll have to put one on my list for the future!

Thanks guys. My stone is 10 1/2" X 1 3/8". A good size to work a double edge blade or a straight razor. If you get a chance, try one out, they will work on simple stainless and carbon steels. DM

I took a photo of a large part of my collection years ago, but it has grown a bit since then. IIRC, there are JNats, Thuringians, coticules, Dalmore Blue, Silkstones, and plenty of others in this photo. One of these days I ought to take another picture - it will just take a while to get them all set out and then put back away.
