This post should be fun since it seems like all the posts around here lately are sad and depressing

So who here takes hot showers?

How bout cold showers?

Explain why you choose hot/cold.

I'm a hot shower kind of person my-self. I just don't like being cold when i'm nekkid :) :p

I prefer hot showers but once, I stayed at a place where the hot water heater was broken. I took cold showers for about a week and, funny thing, I got used to them. Ever so often, I take a cold shower for the heck of it. Just the macho in me, I guess.

Sometime hot, sometimes cold. That's why there are two faucets.

I take cold showers. They wake me up and make me alert. There is some interesting anecedotal information regarding dousing with cold water and health. I'm not sure I agree with it, but it's certainly worth the minimal effort to give it a try. Plus, it's amazing the mental effort it takes to make your self get into a cold shower, or dump a cold bucket of water on your head.

Hot showers for me, relaxes me and keeps me clean. My family went through a period when I was a kid where we couldn't afford to replace our hot water heater and we had to take cold showers. Never again.

Generally very warm. Unless it's cold outside, then I take very hot showers.

I don't bathe so it really doesn't matter. :p ;) :D

I usually like the old hot shower, but if it a miserable hot day, a nice jolt of cold water is refreshing. In the winter I avoid cold showers like the plague, if I want cold there is already too much of that all around.

For about a year I used to take only cold showers. It does wonders to the skin. But now I'm too stressed and comfort seeking, so I take hot showers...

Sort of luke-warm. I don't like HOT water...My skin is very sensitive to HOT water. I like cool more than hot or too warm.

Assuming I'm not going to be shaving right after:

I will take a hot shower then at the end switch to cool. I learned this from my grandma on the Big Island. It seems to help avoiding colds and stuff.

Hot showers all the way. I tried cold showers for a while, but I just felt real agitated once I got done.

One thing that almost always put me in a bad mood is taking a shower that started out warm, then turned cold. Ruins my day.

Usually a hot shower unless I'm burning up. I've done farm work and archeological field work and a nice cool (not cold) shower was the only thing to get me cooled off again. I didn't have air conditioning then either.

Hot.

This is slightly OT, but hopefully close enough: Years ago, I watched the Robin Williams movie Good Morning Vietnam. One of his PSAs that he sends out to the troops was that shaving with cold water was better than shaving with hot. I always wondered if this was true, or just Army BS to make the troops feel good about cold shaves, or just a completely fictional line in a fictional movie.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I remember that line from the movie. It's the other way around unless you are a bit of a masochist.

Edited out foul language. Please remember what forum you're in before you post.

Ok, can I use the abbreviation "BS" then?

Shaving with hot water is the way to go. Hot water opens the pores and hair follicles allowing you to get a closer, smoother shave. If I shave with cold water my face gets ripped to shreds. By all means use hot water to shave.

I was told that the right way to shower yourself is to use hot water first (to relax your muscles) and then you finish with a cold shower which invigorates your blood flow.

I read a book by a Russian Martial Arts expert recommending pouring a bucket of cold water over your head and body twice a day. 12 noon and 12 midnight. Water from the bucket is supposed to be more energised than showers or something like that. But this is if you filled it some time before hand.

What i read was that the rush of cold water brings a quick rise in your body temperature that's supposed to kill some bacteria or virus or whatever. When you try it you'll feel that your body is really warm for quite awhile after that.

I don't know whether this is all BS or what 'cos i never felt like dumping a bucket of cold water over myself at midnight.

On the topic of showers. I like it warm.

No. If you really need to use foul language in a civil discussion than maybe you should visit W&C. That forum would be more up your alley.
