Showers: Hot or Cold

Man, the two things I look for in the ideal shower...

I want it hot enough to darn near scald me, and enough pressure to cut D2!!

If I can get one or the other, I'm okay, but a shower that feels like heated needles on me...man, that's good!!!

If I can't get at least one or the other (I prefer pressure to heat, if it comes to a choice), I advise keeping at least a seventeen-foot "safety radius" around me. Within that range, I cannot assure your safety, as I am 'slightly grouchy.'

Cold is good for toning the skin at the end of a good, hot shower, though!

Slightly off-topic...I used to go to a gym that offered access to a sauna, steamroom, hot-tub, and 'cold dip' pool. It was very Spartan...the sauna was usually about 240 degrees (make sure to take a wet towel to sit on!!), the hot tub was usually about 114 degrees, and the cold pool (actually a hole in the ground about four foot diameter, with steps down into it) was usually about 45 degrees. When you're really feeling your oats, try making the shift, sometime. A 200+ degree temperature differential will you make you feel...unique. I know that those nutty Fins do it all the time, but the first time you try it, let me guarantee you that you'll be trying to coax your gonads out of your armpits, where they're whimpering and hiding, trying to rub against your lymph nodes for warmth!!

Hot.

This is slightly OT, but hopefully close enough: Years ago, I watched the Robin Williams movie Good Morning Vietnam. One of his PSAs that he sends out to the troops was that shaving with cold water was better than shaving with hot. I always wondered if this was true, or just Army BS to make the troops feel good about cold shaves, or just a completely fictional line in a fictional movie.

Any thoughts?

No. If you really need to use foul language in a civil discussion than maybe you should visit W&C. That forum would be more up your alley.

Er double standards or what? I haven't noticed you suggested to Akjon that W&C would be more up his alley.

Hi All-

Start with warm water for effective lathering and then finish with pure COLD for toning effects. Used to do the "steamroom to cold plunge" technique mentioned above years ago, but I think that should be left to young men and women 25 years of age or younger. I have to think it causes some cardiac stress.

That was easy to miss because he didn't use the word itself. You, on the other hand, did which is what caught my attention. Follow the rules of this forum and you'll get by just fine with me. I can let some things slide, other things I can't. Blatant use of foul language in this forum is one thing I will not accept. In Akjon's case his use of "BS" pretty much fell in with something I can let slide given the context in which it was presented. It's all about the manner in which you use it. Call it what you wish but you made yourself a target by using blatant foul language. Had you used used the abbreviation you and I wouldn't be discussing this. Capische?

Well, for a standard shower, I like them warm-n-toasty. On a coooolld day, or after a cold activity, I like 'em nearly hot. On a hot day, I like 'em cool. If I'm sunburned, I like 'em cold.

I like 'em warm, but my wife likes them hot, so it's something I'll put up with, if she's in there with me!

A long time ago I used to spend my time as what is known today as a "drifter". I was a college-educated young man just hitching my way around the country, working menial jobs, and doing a lot of carny work when I could get it. I took my showers where and when I could get them too. I prefer them hot but I had a few apartments that were known in those days as "cold water flats" - guess how I took my showers then! :D

Hot enough that I look a little toasty for the next 1/2 hour... LOVE high pressure showers if I can find em.

Have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time in the sauna at the pool right next door to my school this winter. Get a free pass to the pool with my student card(saving $150 over 8 months).

Hot when I'm shaving my legs!!! (So the razor doesn't grab and pull the stubble)

Lukewarm most other times and in and out in 3 minutes or less cause I'm Jack Benny when it comes to spending cash on electricity.

Best showers though are cold and taken outside standin' nekid under a waterfall about mid way up the cliffs of the Columbia River Gorge over looking the freeway after riding a brisk 100 miles on the bicycle. Refreshing, relaxing, and gives ya a king-of-the-world or I-can-just-piss-on-everybody-whenever-I-feel-like-it kind of freedom........ :D
