Showing off my Wavy Hamon

Hi Bruce, no I'm not ready for the Master classification yet. Could you tell us where you got the W2 steel, and maybe a brief description of the process you use. That knife is about as perfect a knife as I have ever seen.

for me theres generally a focal point on a knife that stands out or draws my eyes to the most, in this case the whole damn thing is stunning, and im now dizzy from my eyes going in circles trying to focus on what stands out the most....wow i love that thing:)

You really give is guys something to strive for... Bruce, that is just...well...no words, man no words.

Again Thankyou guys. I really do appreciate what my peers think of my stuff.

Tom, I bought the W2 from Don Hanson III. He sells allot of it. I forged it from big stock to bar stock and then into the bowie blade. I normalized it at least 4 times and quenched it in water for a second or two to help pop off any scale and reduce grain further. I put it in my Evenheat oven at 1350 for one hour for an anneal and ground the blade to around .060" at the edge. Coated it evenly with ITC 100 clay and heated to 1475f in the oven, soaked for 5 min. and quenched point down in Parks 50 oil. Tempered at 395f for 1 hour twice. Reground the blade and finished to 2000 grit and etched in very very very weak ferric cloride and rain water for just a few seconds and cleaned off with worn out 3M ultra fine sponge between etches about 5 times. The final finish is Flitz polish by hand until all the black is gone. Piece O Cake.

Bruce,
Your vision for design and talent for bringing it to life is an inspiration to other makers and a driving force behind the desire to perfect our skills and aquire new ones in our quest for creating knives that flow from one end to the other seamlessly without being overdone. Everything that should be there IS, and nothing is included that is NOT needed. I think it seems easier to accomplish this than it is but you are truly one of the few masters that seems to nail it everytime.

Thanks for posting this fine example of your skills -Josh
